just make sure that no heat reaches plants that young of seedlings & you'll be fine.

What state are you in ? I'm in Michigan & have an extra Vortex fan or 2 laying around I'm not using that would help get you jamming the right way & cool that light properly, one is yours for free if were close enough,I'm in Frankenmuth Mich the rest of the month ,then I'll be in Bloomfield Hills Mich for the winter, let me know if your close enough & I'll hook you up with some goodies to get you going no charge no drama,I've got an entire barn full of unused grow gear collected from 30 years growing, and I'm 100% legal so I don't care who knows lol

I do not use HIDs nor have I researched them but I was reading someone saying that dimming your lights puts out more red to far red of the spectrum in ratio to your blue if that is the case you may notice your stems growing stringier and nodes further apart, typically for veg you want far more blue to red(far red) in terms of PAR (Useable light frequencies by your plants) You may consider supplementing some blue LEDs or another source of blue light.

the red vs blue loss gain ratio is so small its of zero value unless you plan on vegging for several months, the biggest contributor to stretched weak stalks is #1 light source too far from canopy, and #2 stagnant plants not fluttering to build stalk strength.

Anything less than a 60 day veg its not even worth using MH in veg, with a 30 day veg or less running straight hps is perfect for multiple plants,of all HID bulbs the HPS enhanced spectrum bulbs are the biggest bang for the buck .

ewwwww vegging with an hps sucks, talk about tall plants with minimal branching, that's what happens when you grow with a light that's mainly red light when plants use blue light for veg growth (that's what pushes chlorophyll production)

Got my mh being used, rn they are in the dark for a couple hours, so far so good. Going to try and make a cheap ghetto A/C today lets see how this goes

I take it you've never used or researched any of the enhanced spectrum HPS available at the same cost as straight HPS .

To each their own but vegging can never out produce single cola 8 week from clone to harvest weights .

I have 12 babies that just popped under 4 CFL's. I have my 600w HIDs coming in today and now I ask myself.. when do I throw this bad boy in?!

Now I know it wouldnt be smart to throw that 600w on full blast toasting the seedlings. These guys arent even finished growing theyre first node. BUT. What if I throw my 600w in 50% maybe 2 feet above the babes and then use the 4 cfls to maybe just maybe help the plants not stretch out? Anybody ever run into a situation like this? What did you do or recommend?

Thank you all who have spent the time to read and respond! Much love!
from the start i veg from seed with hid lights
