Why are COBs better, and whats so great about the 3590?

i dont have all the colors but ill try to shoot 3000k and 4000k gen 7 veros with the spectrometer so we can compare with CXB
In case you're curious, this is Tasty's stats on it:

"The T1-V196 horticultural lamp from Tasty LED use a Vero29 LED emitter driven at 85 watts providing 50% emitter efficiency at full power and higher efficiencies when dimmed.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

Total wattage: 92
Lumens: 13,560
PAR watts: 42
PPF: 196
Efficiency: 50%

Emitters: 1 Vero 29C 3500K 90CRI
Current: 1670ma
Watts each: 85

Power supply: Meanwell LPF series (LPF-90D-54)
Efficiency: 90-91%

AC Input (C13): 120-240 volts, 50/60Hz, .75amps at 120V
AC output (C14): for connecting multiple units

Dimensions: 6" x 5" x 12"

-Ratchet hangers and hardware: 1 pair
-Optics: 90 degree reflectors

Space usage and light intensity in vegetative and flowering mode:
The recommended minimum and maximum flowering and full cycle footprints are at 500 and 1200 PPFD.
The recommended minimum and maximum vegetative footprints are at 300 and 700 PPFD.
-18" x 18" 932 PPFD
-24" x 24" 524 PPFD
-30" x 30" 336 PPFD."

I run three T1 fixtures in a 4x2 closet. Two older T1-2100s using the Cree CXB3590s, and one of his newer redesign, the T1-V196 which uses the Vero29Cs.

yes but does that 50% figure include the reflector? i could see 50% chip only efficiency at 85W but i imagine the fxture is closer to 40% with driver and optics

Pretty sure he runs it the way he sends it (meaning with reflector applied) before he starts selling the model.

I have an Optic with 3500k gen six vero next to a Northern Photon 180
with Citizen 3500k 90cri and the vero shows pistils as much whiter. Seems noticeably cooler white. The human eye experience under the 3500k 90 cri is so pleasant. Under white cobs I have seen terpines and potency like never before. Also using a a51 sgs160 to flip new plants but my real flower power is cobs.

I actually said this earlier. My Crees are 80CRI, 3500k. My Vero29C is 90CRI, 3500k. The 80CRI Cree is subtly but noticeably slightly more orange, whereas the 90CRI Vero is so bright-neutral-white that it almost has a kind of slight bluish tinge and it's noticeably brighter.

interesting because for a given cob, usually 90 cri is redder.

most likely the cree is lower than, or the vero is higher than, exactly 3500k which is not unusual if you look at the chromaticity tolerances on the datasheets

I mean, I can do my best to show you. Cameras don't do that the best, but it's what I've got.

I also run a gen six 4000k vero and it more resembles the 3500k vero than the 3500k vero looks like the 3500k 90cri citizen. Follow that? The Vero cobs seem bluer.

One thing though. They all out perform other types of light sources and the light they produce needs nothing added. Growing with cobs is so easygoing.

Probably most noticeable by its projection onto the back wall. Pay attention to the color of the wall and you'll notice if you can't tell from the emitter itself.

I have 4x cree cxb 3590's and 1 cxb3070 that have been sitting i. a box for 2 months. Procrastinated on building my 2nd cxb x4 bar, now the vero29's are the new "20"yr old? Well damn! What's a diyer to do? Also, what's all the fuss about on the bigger drivers? Ie. Hlg 320-2100

in the long run mate and after being in the world of hydro store this is what most of us hydro store owners are doing we will not take any led systems at all none zero reason being is they are just to hard to deal with and in the long run they just don't work we have done side bysides we have tested to see how long they run they all turn out good but the main issue is the ease of replaceing now if a cob shits itself halfway thru a grow what are u gunna do if u built it u are kinda ok but a store brought one u are fucked in the ass why here were i work all led systems are trash we take hps mh t5 and plasma that is all and some lec lights
Hmmm I manage a Hydro store, Love LED's, sell lots of them and have had great success using them. Remember not all LEDs are the same though.

Here's 241w of TastyLED COB fixtures. 2x Cree 3590s (3500k/80 CRI) driven at 2150mA each, 1x Seventh Gen Vero29C (3500k/90 CRI.) driven at 1670mA. 4 weeks 6 days in. Large golfball sized nugs so far, and we are still 4-6 weeks from Harvest.
