Speed controller needed for RVK??

So I bought a RVK fan kit.

I thought that 900m3/HR would be overkill but I could use a speed controller to turn that down/increase efficiency?

Ive heard that some speed controllers induce vibrations though, so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

Currently looking at this.

Which one would I need if so, and how does it wire into the RVK?

Or should I just run it as is..

Can it be used with a speed controller? Many of the cheaper fans don't play well with them, they hum/vibrate, some specifically state not to use them, some don't say either way and you find out the hard way. The controller makes a difference as well, the cheap ones are nothing more than a mechanical rheostat, or dimmer switch, better ones use electronics and don't seem to cause the hum.

Well I just tried the fan out.

I have a 1metre by 1 metre by 2 metre tall tent. The fan is LOUD and I have no idea what to do.
The filter supplied in the kit is almost a metre long too. Im at a loss what to do as Its so heavy I don't have anything strong enough to hang it.

This whole grow tent has been one mess up to the next.

Would really appreciate some advice.

If anyone can help? Should I return this fan, make do and assume once the filter and ducting is added it'll be quiter or does anyone recommend a different exhaust kit?

The filter and ducting should quiet it down a lititle. Small tents are hard to setup, is stealth a priority? If not mount the fan/filter outside the tent. Stand the filter on end, mount the fan to it, run duct to the tent. Carbon filters aren't as efficient pushing through, but it still works.

It's more the fact that I have a small place and the set up is next to my living area. Like Im sitting a few feet away from it. And sleep next door to it. Not sure whether to go ahead and set it up but then not be able to return it, or wait to send it back wait for my refund then get the more expensive phresh hyper fan which is suppose to be quieter? Not sure by how much though.

stand the filter upright on the floor, it's not ideal but it's the best u can do seeing as u can't hang it. I use systemair rvk fans exclusively. I use mainly variac based controllers that my friend builds for me, there's alot of tutorials around on making one. I do have a smscom controller and it doesn't make it any louder but Imo it isnt any quieter even at half speed.

Well for starters yes it will be much quieter with the filter and ducting hooked up like Weedfreak78 said, and i agree that you should have the fan outside the tent (i have mine in an insulated box ontop of the tent) however i would not follow his advice of pushing through the filter, not only because pushing is far less effective than pulling for exhaust but also because this will do almost nothing to mask the scent that your filter is specifically there to cover up. Always have your carbon filter inside your tent, hanging at the top, preferably on the opposite side of where your intake duct/vent is coming in at the bottom, so for example if your intake is at the bottom left of the tent you should put the filter at the top right, this will ensure that air being sucked into the tent will cross over your plants in the most effective manner as it is drawn toward the filter. btw you can just chain together a couple of bigger zip ties to hold the filter up, that's whats holding mine right now and has been for over a year. and this isnt going to be exactly what you wanna hear but- if you thought you were gonna setup a grow space without it putting off a little bit of noise you didn't think things through very well.. Ive grown in PC towers, Tents, Closets, Garden Sheds, even entire bedrooms full, and the 1 thing they all have in common is a subtle humming of fans and ballasts, like i mentioned above ive even built insulated boxes to house my high cfm fans and still hear the hum coming through, its just part of growing indoors, but after a few weeks you will be so used to it you hardly even notice.

Sorry for the double post but also wanted to throw on that you should use a variable speed controller regardless of noise or not, its very important to be able to adjust air volume especially when using a high cfm fan in a small area. just tweak it so the walls of your tent are sucking in just slightly but arent overly tight, if you can read your plants well they will let you know if your moving too much or too little air. Im also curious what lighting your using and whether this fan is meant solely for air exchange or for heat exhaust as well..

Sweet thanks guys. Yeah I have set up a tent before this is my second, it's just the fan supposed to be acceptable in this kit that I bought just wasnt up to scratch. Thought I'd get this RVK but bought one with no speed controller but I asked to have one but because im having trouble with the eBay seller he's not playing ball. He wanted to give me a cheap potentiometer one which I said I didn't want to have. It's all kicking off now and he won't stop messaging me on eBay with abuse!

So long story short, I'll insulate the fan, and look for a variac fan speed controller. Should that include a heat probe as ive seen those? But really Id like to have it on at all times anyway so not sure if that's needed?

And @JackSkell this isn't a subtle fan noise, it's a whooshing and all sorts haha. I think a 6"RVK was overkill but I am only used to those cheap vents TT fans so didn't expect it to actually suck air and stuff haha!

Yeah man I have a 5" vents fan blowing through 1 right angle and about 2 ft of pipe and I can't even feel the air pushing through it haha.
yeah the rvks are pretty good, I cool 4 600w cooltubes with one 8 inch L1 rvk and the glass is cold, not even warm. Are you in Europe or uk or usa?

you can make one yourself but you have to buy the parts and be knowlegeable enough (not that its hard) to put them all together, if u can afford it just buy one, it's like 10gram of cream or 20gram of shit, not hard to recoup your money.
