Running 1 vero 29 @ 30-40w or 10 solderless xm-L2?

Hi,
I have both setups on my desk. It will go in a micro grow, only 26" of height. The 10 smaller leds, can be ran at 700ma or 1000ma producing almost 0 heat. They start producing heat when bumping up to 1400ma, and can go up to 3000ma. They are 1w-5w LED's, awesome stuff.

However the single vero 29 at 30w will most likely produce a small amount of heat, and hard to mount to my grow lid, where the 10 leds can be mounted with VBS double stick tape, and can be placed around the lid to give full light..

Is this why people use 8-10+ LEDS vs 1?

Impossible for LEDs to produce almost zero heat. They are not 100% efficient. Watt for Watt the vero will more then likely produce less heat. They also have solderless veros now Vero 29 SE's have push in connectors. A Vero 29 gen 7 version D run @ 30 watts is right around 60% efficient , so 60% of the wattage goes to light and 40% to heat. I really doubt Ten 5 watters run @ 30 watts will be anywhere close to 60% efficient. Havent looked at them in a couple years but they were pretty far behind the efficiency of cobs back then. The only benifit to running 10 vs 1 is you can space them out to get better coverage. You could go with multiple Vero 10s or 13s and space those out to get the same effect. But they will not be as efficient as one vero 29.

So not really true bigger COBs run at the same wattage as smaller LEDs will produce less heat because they simpley run more efficient.

Also you will get better light spread with the multiple light sources.

Lol I understand the laws the thermal dynamics just fine. The numbers dont lie a vero 29 is a more efficient chip then 10 XM-L2s when run at 30 or 40 watts. They are more efficient then I thought but they still lose. In fact you would have to run 19 XM-L2s at 38 watts to tie one VERO 29 gen 7 D version run at 38 watts. Thats if you can find the top bins they are also 70 cri. Since the vero 29 costs 24 bucks for one and the stars with the XM-L2s are 6.99 for one , well you can do the math. But Sorry No! there are no magical fucking heat eating fairies built into the crees XM-L2s that make them produce no heat. The laws of thermal dynamics apply to cree and birdgelux and every other company out there all the same. Peace

You could also get Cree XP-G3.

But the Vero 29 is almost certainly going to be more efficient, unless you're using 5000K S5 bin XP-G3s.
