Not sure what you mean by results are not so great. as stated above 550w of cob in that area is a lot of light. If you are veg Id back that down to about 320 watts for your tent, especially if you have younger plants, then crank it back up once you flip to flower...

I moved mine into 400 watt setup a week ago.

They came from CFLs so I bump it up about 20 watts a day until I get where I want to be.

Like mentioned above I run about 300 during veg than hammer down during flower.

Hope this helps.

It is my first run since I switched to cob.
I got 12 1818 gen 5 driven by 3 hlg-185h-54.
550watt from the wall.
It should be more than 800 ppfd over a 4x4 tent...But result are really not so great. Did I made some mistake with calculation and projecting or is just a bad pheno ?
the one thing i noticed right away when i went from t5 to COB was that my plants looked like hell almost immediately. there is a huge change to the plants and you have to dial them in. the nutrients are different and the height of the light is WAY different. i had to raise my nutrients quite a bit, especially cal mag and i had to raise my lights a lot. i usually run tight to the light as i can without trying to heat stress things. you CANT do this with the intensity of COBs. i had droopy sad looking plants and i was questioning my investment a lot. i finally dialed them in and raised my light to about 2.5-3 feet above and they are the happiest i have ever seen. dial you shit in and you will reap the rewards. start by raising your lights more than you would think and upping the nutes a little. the first picture is after i started using the COBs. the growth rate was great but they looked like shit. i dialed in my nutes again and raised the light up and now the second pic is what i open my tent to every day :) big difference in a few weeks. I vegged from seed @150/300watt (start at 150 than gradually increased ),than gave full power for flower...Now I am at day 50 of flower but bud are not dense or full...3 blue dream from hso and 2 white siberian from dinafem

Wow, Desert Hydro, that is quite an improvement! Are these veg'n? Or flower?
I recently switched over to COBs. So, what I'm trying to wrap my head around is, and maybe it's a habit developed from hps, the inverse sq. Law, for light. I thought the closer the better? That's why I had a glass covered cooled hood. Lose lumens through the glass but it was closer to the plants (make up for loss). So is it the ppfd is soo good that the new. distance calculations are not based on "closeness" to plants anymore? Its like a whole new way of growing, minds are very hard to change.

Light schedule? Light leaks?

i just flipped these into flower. still under the 6500k veg rig i built from cobkits. i was in the same mindset as you. with my t5s i run inches away with a fan on the bulbs and get great results. these i have to raise way up and im only burning ~300w! the difference in heat alone between these and a t5 is amazing. it will blow HID out of the water heat wise. i cant to not have to worry about frying my shit.

i will put some pics up right now when i go pick up my CXM22s.

During veg 18/6
Flower 12/12
Also use 730nm far red 15 min at light out.
No light leaks.
But I had timer problem at day 18 of flower...basically had 24h of light from day 18 till day 22.....Than 24h dark than again 12/12

Just have 3 or 4 beatiful colas ...8inch long, large and full from tip to stem.
Other bud are shorter and less dense and full.only 2 or inches from top, below all bud are almost empty

I dont think its the light, what temps you keeping in your tent? Id aim for ambient temps around 80d F. No higher than 85 or less than 75...

I assume you are making a profit on everything you offer, so what is to lose?
lots to lose when you have old chips that nobody wants. inventory is a losing game in a falling price chip market.i maybe sell 10-20 1212s for every 1825 i sell, despite the 1825s being more efficient. sitting on chips for a year to ultimately sell them below cost is not sustainable
Great video on how to make the frame.

I have 2 drivers, anyway to hook up a single potentiometer to control both drivers at the same time and a single 3 prong outlet so that the whole unit acts as a single light? Would be nice to have 1 plug and 1 cord.

I will take many pictures when I get started to help out future noobs :)
for B drivers, pot value = 100k/number of drivers. so for two hooked up together use a 50k, 33.3k for 3, etc.

looks like your typical shock from ramping up the light suddenly. but yes, less is more! im amazed the results i get with 20-30W/SF

regardless of what light you use there are max and min light levels the plant can take. my first cob run they were sucking nutes like crazy, suddenly the rockwool cubes i used for years werent enough as they literally couldnt feed them fast enough. there are a lot of factors including metabolism, respiration rate, etc. if your plant is struggling to keep up it will stress. in this case it just identified a limitation, so now i grow big beautiful roots before i get near flowering and they are all happy again

a lot of people think they will replace 1000W of HID with 1000W of cobs and simply yield more but thats A LOT of light and it will reveal your other limitations

There's your problem, a timer malfunction at that point in flower will really change the morphology of your buds. Your temps are too low too.
