Random photoperiod seed flowering under 18/6

I have been cutting clones preparing for a perpetual. I also started popping various seeds from pot I liked.

All photoperiod strains.

The one in question is a Afghani regards photoperiod. It is the only one out of 30+ plants flowering under 18/6. I increased to 19/5 and it keeps on trucking.

I know some early strains will start flowering at around 18/6 or a little less.

Do I have a photoperiod with a recessive auto flower trait?

I get that but I don't think its the case here. I have several of the same strain popped. All in the same organic soil under the same spectrum.

As you know some photoperiod strains are actually auto flowers. Not in the same sense that most autos are. Talking pure sativas. I know you have experience with those types. They are used to 12/12 around the equator so they grow so long before flowering.

I have it labeled Afghani but it is possible that I mixed it up with some mexi brick genetics I like to grow. Though the mexi genetics have never flowered under 18/6.

It would be hard to tell the difference. The Mexican genetics I saved are not the thin leaf variety. Well some are but some are broad leaf types like oxacan.

If you look at genetics like I prefer to....."Laws are meant to be broken." Like there is "No guarantee of 100% female seeds from feminized seeds!" Member I had a dbl "yoker" and a male in 5 beans from that Skywalker comparative? Shit happens.

It's simply a recessive trait that became randomly active in that seed. That's how I would explain it to myself - if I knew for sure I didn't boo, boo a seed dropped at some point!

I do have to ask. How long did it veg for before you noticed it blooming?

Not long. Less than a month. Second or third set of leaves.

Just toying with the idea of using some of the pollen. Save enough pollen to back cross it a few times if need be.

Will do.

I'm not sure of the time frame. Could have been longer. Its in a solo cup. It might just look small and be older.

It got a bit over watered. It doesn't look bad except it burnt through N stretching and needs fed.

I normally date and put the strain name on every cup or pot. These were just out of some that really didn't matter

I guess I've learned a lesson. Mark and date everything.

I am afraid we are gonna see more and more of this as autoflowering strains become more mainstream ... some breeders wont be able to resist using beautiful plants with autoflowering traits in their genes and before you know we will have 20% of the genepool of cannabis ''contaminated'' with auto flowering genes.

Another way they will pop and I have experienced it myself is some breeder will use the short cut of hemp to up the CBD of certain cultivar, they might end up with a nice seed line but try breeding with those plants and the autoflowering gene can pop back up. Some breeders or pollen chuckers might not notice until they are a couple generation down the line. Professional breeders will have to have the discipline to stay away from new ''hot'' clone only strains because you never know if they came from garden already ''contaminated'' with autoflowering gene.

Anyway, long story short, work with regular beans people.

Not really what I'm getting at. I grow autos and photos.

Don't worry. Reg seeds are not going to disappear.

Don't tell me its to make people to buy more seeds. A little cs or one male and.you have all the seeds you want.

I don't think its a case of contaminated gene pool. Hell ruderalis came from photo period plants. It adapted over time to live in the harsh conditions and long days up north.

At one point most cannabis was related.

If this seed in question is the Afghani it came from a reputable breeder. If it came from my mexi seeds then it is a southern Mexican strain.

I don't think we will see more and more of it. I think it is more just one of those random things that happen like a full on male like Dr who got from fem seeds or twins like he or I both had.

I think this is how auto flowers were discovered. A plant auto flowered and people started working it.


Either way I grow everything from regs to FEMS to autos.

I have plenty of reg seeds to breed back to.

I did label it. It is a seedsman white widow. Very much sativa influence from past times growing it.

I don't know why I thought I didn't.
