Can I run 5 x 1212 at 50w each on HLG-240-C1400A?

Ive read multiple times now that MeanWell are conservative with there ratings, but I want to make sure before I puchase.

I was planning to run each 1212 at 36v * 1350A = 48w, however a freind here mentioned thats its really pushing the driver and recommneded only 4 * 50w per 1 HLG240w.

The spec sheet shows const current region 89-179v, if all 5 1212's ran at 36v thats 180v...

Also, doesn't the drivers 6-8% efficiency range deduct some power that I can use?

What am I likely to get out of these drivers per 5 1212's if I maxed them out?

I guess one solution to allow for overage would be to purchase HLG-320-C1400A's

Check the specs for the 1212. COB''s will frequently use less Fv at lower currents. Might only be using 35 volts. Citizen's spec sheet will tell you.

HLG-240 1400mA Constant Current 5 x COB@35.5v*1.4A = 248.5w this seems tight, but it might be possible


Or you could go with meanwell HLG-240 Constant Current + Constant Voltage again it will be very tight but, if you are at 5 x COBs@35v * 1350A = 236.25w you should be able to get em to fire up, thing is you can adjust the current and voltage with this type of driver which gives you room to play around.

Personally I would run em a little lower, you could try running 5 at 35v * 1.2A = 210w which will leave you with about 0.79A on the driver.

Hmm, I cud run them lower like you guys say, but I dont want to go below 45w per cob.
