What about the systems they use on RV's to roll out the awning? Something like that might work. Or have you got a couple of nine year kids? They are good for that sort of thing.

What's the cost of living like there.. How is the med system set up? Pretty easy to get a card? How about an increased plant count?

To OP - this year I just have 4 small hoop houses within one big hoophouse. The big greenhouse will keep the wind off, making it easy to pull the blackout material over them and easy to keep it on.. not automated, but simple. Good luck!
