citi gen 6 vs vero gen 7

Hey there, fellow DIYers.

since the "dont know what to choose"thread is closed, i will start a new one.
In here I would like to compare the new citi 6ers against Veros new 7ers.
since bridgelux released 36,52& 68 V chips im a bit confused - i dont want to be spoonfed, but would like to get the knowledge to find out the differnce myself so im also ready for the future of cob

Im about to construct a new, this time hard-driven COB panel
and was kind of waiting for the new gen 6 from citizen. they are available now for me, but the flagship 1825s come at 35,7$+VAT, whilst the 1212s are still around 10 bucks.
on the other hand, the new Vero gen7s come at only 21,5$+VAT which is almost half.

My idea was 2 hlg240-1400 for 6 * 52V chip for a total of around 440w.
Is there still people out there, who have the patience and skill to bring out spreadsheets of the chips on different current ? i remember a year ago, they were all easily find,- & accesable (hail supra !). on those you could always easily figure out efficacy for given current etc and i found it dang helpful - its possible that im just too stoned again, to find them, please dont hesitate to point that out against me

So the main question is, what chip should i choose and why. I kind of wanted to go with Citizen, but at almost 100$+ for the same lamp & performance seems ridiculous to me choosing those.

and a second question : the hlg-240-1750 is rated with 143Voutput max & the 4*1212s come up to 144V - could this be a problem in any way or is it absolutely nothing to worry about.

in terms of efficiency my best guess at current pecking order (not fully testing all of the citi gen 6 but making some guesses on teh few gen 5 vs gen6 tests ive done) is something like

clu058-3618 gen 6

cxm32 =clu058-1825 gen 6

clu048-1818 gen 6=clu058-1825 gen 5=vero v7 70V
.
cxm22 = vero v7 50V = vero v7 34V = clu048-1818 gen 5
.
cxb3590 = clu048-1212 gen 6

thats whats good about citi, its pretty scalable. that said 1825 is a premium, you need 2-1/2 1212s to match it. which is cheaper but maybe not once you have heatsinks and holders

vero SEs come with holders so think of that as well

I was waiting for someone to bring this up. The real question is Vero 29 C (GEN 7) vs 1825 (GEN 6).

i cant paste images right now but vero C gen7 tests exactly the same as 1825 gen 5 out to 200W. You'd think they were the same chip. assuming gen 6 is better theres not much to see

At a certain efficiency they should come close to breaking even on a price/performance ratio, under driving Vero29 wattage by 20-25% which is also the price difference assuming gen 6 doesn't change.

i do think the vero C s are an outstanding value at $31.

same can be said on the flip side for the luminus and 1212 price/performance

seems the bigger chips are a cost premium for convenience. vero C covers this range well

a lot of the cost comes down to filling the drivers out, those 70V ones can be challenging in some cases. more options for 50V cobs. only thing i really dont like about the veros, great all around chips tho

check out the 68V "C" models... they are high lm/W at higher wattage... around 50W (850mA) gets over 170lm/W+

he's talking about using 2 x drivers so 3 cobs per driver should be fine.this is why i have avoided those 70v vero,had to match them up to a driver without a bunch of unused voltage left on the table.

he said hlg 240 1050 which puts out 238v with dimmer and a bit more with dimmer capped.so 3 should work and not much left on the table.its actually a better fit then i thought lol
