Test room: DE HPS vs. Citizen COBs

I have found that the girls like a different nutrient balance friending on the light they're under. It didn't surprise me at all that the ones under the LED lights aren't as happy, because they aren't getting a nutrient profile tailors to their needs. This gives the advantage to the HPS.

Care to elaborate on what youve found works better as a profile under LED?

ive been using gh maxi series w/ great results under cmh lights,, are u saying if i switched over to full led my nutrients wouldnt work as well? as of now ive added 2 100 watt citizens to my cmh plants are loving the mixed spectrum and nutrients as far as i can see and yields are up in gram per watt as well.. i thought of replacing the cmh with more citizen led's but not if id have to change my nutrients???

I use the gh maxi series and have changed from hps to cobs... Only difference I've found is they need just a little higher
ppm and a cal mag supplement... Don't need to change just need a little more..

Finally made it up north for an update. I was surprised by the leaf growth on the DE side. I expected that to be the led side. He has huge temp swings and is running Cutting Edge nutrients at over 1300ppms. I was never able to get that nut line to work for me.

the led buds look better, however it could be the lighting from a visual point of view..

yes the hps look bigger, but is that bud weight or leaf weight?

im enjoying this...

BTW your lights are looking good!

What does this mean? Lets be real here, yes both sides look fantastic. But the DE side is destroying the LED side. Its not even a race, there not even on the same planet.

The DE side definitely looks like it has more volume, more plant mass... some of the details are hard to tell even when I look at the pics at full res. The COB side looks frostier, but that could just be the quality of the light. The plant leaf issues are highly visible on the COB side, but there are some on the DE side when you look closely. I wonder if the grower has more experience with one light source than the other (sorry if that was mentioned, I haven't read the early posts recently)? COBs are tricky, and it can take a grow or two to dial them in.

I hope they do THC tests for both sides, and report back on full cured smoke tests. Quantity is not always the primary objective.

From all whats been shown and said so far, id be willing to bet the gardeners main focus is quality. Its obvious in the room set up and plant care.

I hear you, but I can't gauge the quality of how it smokes from how it looks in pictures. So from a quality perspective, I couldn't say that the DE side is "destroying" the COB side. I've only been doing this for a couple of years though, maybe you can look at them and tell which one will smoke better. I'm not there yet.

The led side sure will be easy to trim:bigjoint:, but ya the side does look better I think. So many leave, and the led side, I just don't under stand the lack of vegetation. I always end up completely overgrown. I should of got some better pics of the leaves on the led side. There was definite calcium def, but not sure what else. The owner of the room hasn't even been around much the last few weeks for personal reasons, so nothing was done to help it out. I am running a different nut line, but this coco run for me has done best at 700-1000 ppms and I still have the smallest tip burn on a few leaves. He says that the room gets up to 80*, but when we walked in and the lights had been on for a short time, it was only 62*. Not having IR on the led side is a negative for his room/location (cold). I don't know how long it takes to get into the 70*s.

I am waiting like everybody else to find out the results and I hope to get a chance to do another with some changes. We both could see something was off, but neither of us had the chance to do something about it. For me once every 2 weeks is hard enough to coordinate with him to get pictures. He's just an old timer that hates tech.
