What make a good mother?

I have a space for flowering as well as clones. I originally started 5 different strands (total of nine plants some have multiples of the same) thinking I would keep a clone from each and decide which two would be the best to keep as mother plants after harvest. I'm still in a veg right now. About 5 weeks and the plants of the same strain vary in leaf shape and size quite a bit. Does anyone take the veg state into account in picking a mother or is the final product the only thing that matters? Any input would be appreciated.

yeah, you should keep track of how each plant looks; you might find the strain you like has similar phenos as far as the finished product but the structure of each plant's growth, whether she is a good source for clones (is she bushy or not) and if her clones root well (and quickly) and, finally, how long does each pheno take to finish flowering would be important facts to know to make a good decision. good luck!

Good clone moms --

*should be 6 weeks old or older
*should be symmetrical. I prefer a Christmas tree shape. Asymmetrical implies variable cuttings.
*should produce cuttings that are large enough to have a straw-like hole in it. 1/4 to 3/8 diameter works for me.

good moms produce offspring with huge calyx, solid root structures, good leaf formation, no visible issues.
I used to keep moms now I clone from a clone from a clone from a clone for a +plant count experience.

Not all strains have hollow stems...
