Basically just to say one way or the other getting prescriptions to grow and having to file registrations with HC probably won't be a reality forever

That I'd agree with, I think at some point, hard to say how long it'll take, but at some point they'll try and get rid of the program. Another reason I'd never register into any program, medical or rec for growing. HC has never considered MJ "medicine" that's been quite clear so as soon as there are Pharma grade alternatives, covered by insurance companies and supported by doctors, the days of medical grow programs will be numbered.

Good points, I'd agree with the premise that once there's some proper study done and Pharma begins to produce alternatives the medical program will go away. That may take a while but eventually they'll at least try. Since the accessibility argument won't be as valid, they may get away with killing the program altogether.

What I don't agree with is the "we won't be growing it anymore" portion. I and many others who've been growing it for decades won't stop growing our own, it hasn't stopped us to-date and I don't see how/why we'd stop. Unless they change the proposed law there will still be some allowance for home grows at the federal level in recreational. The catch for home grows under recreational will be how involved and how much the provincial and municipal governments water down the grow options. imo provinces like Ontario are screwed for home grows from day 1 regardless of what the federal law looks like in the end.

I'm assuming this was directed at someone else, or you can't read? I'm the biggest proponent for growing your own weed. I've grown it for 35+ years and will grow it until I kick it.

That doesn't mean that I'm out of touch with reality. Reality is that HC and governments are trying to control the genie and keep as much of the profits in their own pockets. Since they make the rules, the logical thing would be for them to try and screw people yet again and cancel medical grow programs once alternative forms of approved "medicine" aka big Pharma crap become available.

They may or may not be successful, many challenges will be had in the courts. But it doesn't mean they won't try. In my case I really don't give a shit what they say or do, no different now than the past 35 years I've been growing it.

For medical grade the point is not necessarily about cost, plus cheap and high quality do not correlate in almost any market/product. In fact most products have tiers for quality, reliability etc. and escalating prices to match. e.g. Cars, you can buy a low end car for say $12,000, or a higher end car for $112,000 and many models in between. e.g. Beer, you can buy Coors Light for (idk prices as I don't buy it) say $40/case, or you can buy craft beers that are typically the equivalent of $50-$60 a case. I'll drink the odd Coors Light during hot summer months but most of the time if I want a beer I'll have a have craft beer like a Hockley or Flying Monkeys. I don't care that it costs 50% more, I don't drink that much but when I want a beer I want something with flavour, not something that tastes the same as 90% of beer like Coors.

Some of us grow for the sheer enjoyment of the grow, some of us grow for medical and the knowledge of what goes into our medicine, some for both reasons like myself. I don't care about the cost, not accounting for labour I grow it for less than $1/gram (including all costs, depreciation of equipment etc.) and it's therapeutic to boot. If an LP or anyone else sold it for $0.50/g I still wouldn't buy it.

The majority of those preferences/choices really fall more into the recreational market. Once the active ingredients are isolated and manufactured in a pharmaceutical form it's just a matter of dosage and cost, not flavour profile and aroma...

But it's not just about dosage and cost. it's a natural medicine in the form that I use it, I grow it and control what goes into it (and what doesn't), how and what I extract, mix it with in my coconut oil caps. I can't do that with any Pharma meds now, nor will I be able to with MJ-based Pharma meds. A lot of Pharma grade meds use natural extracts which have benefits in their natural state, but by the time Pharma gets through with it, they've added so many other things that you don't know what you're getting. in many cases they're likely reducing the positive effects of the natural product they started with.

Just like I use chamomile with a bud as a sleeping pill, both natural products dissolved in boiling water, plus it tastes good. I could be lazy like most people and get a script for some Pharma grade sleeping pills, but I choose not, always have, always will.

I don't think anyone's going to give up using MJ in the way that helps them and have chose to for decades nor should they have to..,
Other options of varying efficacy will likely become available as people and society at large warm up to legal cannabis and the market opportunities grow
A lot of people don't want to smoke or grow cannabis but want the medicinal or recreational benefits from it
I think the medical benefits of cannabis have a lot of unexplored potential and with more accessible concentrated forms available from insurance or for cheap might see the justification for 100 plant + medical grows weaken a little bit
