any quality LED can hand SE or DE its ass - same yield w 25-50% powerreduction

QBs and cobs use the same tech (phosphor-based white LED)

chilleds are similar to QBs but have some extra color leds which in theory should help it work a little more efficiently

Are QB's much cooler than COBs?

what do you mean by cooler? on a QB the heat is spread out over a much larger area, but unless you run QBs really soft (which costs more per watt), QBs and COBs at a similar $/watt are similar in efficiency, in other words produce similar amounts of heat

So what are the difference between COB's and the SpyderXplus? Or timberlights ? I just can't decide what to do . Spend the $1500 on the SpyderX, or try to build something and have to deal
With repairing it myself if something goes out.

timbers are cobs, spydrs are not. all work well. you can save a lot of money with a utilitarian setup like timber over a fancy case like a spydr. you can save even more if you build yourself from scratch. cobs are very reliable and in most cases if it works for a day it will work for 10 years

But what me really fucks up, he claims to have the best light and all others can not compare. But in fact he use small not so efficient Cree COB's and crappy chinese EPIStar 5w diodes and he claimt it were Bridgelux.

The additional colored LED's may have some effect but If you do without the colored ones and instead use double the number of COB's, you will probably get a lot more PAR. If you want to increase PAR with mono's you need quality LED's like Cree XP-E HE or Osram Oslon top bins. Shitty EPIStars are not able to beat white quality COB's in PAR/w, not even the deep reds. They are simply not efficient enough! Remember, the 5w Epi LED's consist of four 1w chips squeezed into a 1/3w housing!

And at last, he uses too often adjectives like "super-bright", "super-amazing" and "super-strong", but the only thing that is superstrong is the profit margin he has on selling these lights, LOL!
BTW,
as far as I know, critical contributions to lamps from sponsors from the 420 forum will be deleted, critical users will be warned or thrown out! So no wonder you will find nothing negative about these lights there..

Well you were right Randomblame I just received a reply from Neil so I thought I would share what he had to say when I asked him about his COB lights. He uses the following parts Cree 2530, 93CRI, 3000k , when I asked him what drivers he said they were custom designed drivers. He also said he used 5w Bridgelux. Myself I will be sticking with COB diy lights.

Can someone please qualify this statement for me as I am a newbie but I thought the CXB was the more efficient than the CXA run at the same wattage?

"I don't run the cxb because they aren't as efficient. They start at 160w, BTW, not 50w. You can always run them super low at 50w, but I prefer the 3000k that CXA offers, the 65w kind and run them at around 45w. More efficient in my testing for highest average par for 4x4.

I have been trying to beat my Goliath's super high average par for 4x4 at 2 feet away- 582. A 1000w HPS does 575 or so. PS COB does 569.

I haven't seen an LED using around the same low watts 575w (Goliath) and getting anywhere near 582 average umols for 4x4 at 2 feet away."

If you want the best bang for your buck get THIS from Timber. Comes assembled and has a warranty. It will grow just as well as any other light on the market but costs less.
The SypderX is a great light, it's just much more expensive. The quality of the Spyder is no better than the Timber. Both use the best cobs/leds on the market. You can't go wrong with either....personally, I'd spend less and get the Timber. With the money I save I'd buy some super tasty beans to throw under it.

Ok thank you everyone . That's all I wanted to hear again I guess. I just want what gets me the best yield lol
My grow room is dialed in well but I'm looking To save money on electric bill by ditching the HPS , but didn't want to kill my current yields. If both lights perform the same, then I might as well just go with timber.
