So what are the difference between COB's and the SpyderXplus? Or timberlights ? I just can't decide what to do . Spend the $1500 on the SpyderX, or try to build something and have to deal
With repairing it myself if something goes out.

SpyderXPlus is what I'd get if I were you, if you don't need to save a few hundo. Which it probably cost more then that in the difference for Fluence to manufacture that baby.

Can someone please qualify this statement for me as I am a newbie but I thought the CXB was the more efficient than the CXA run at the same wattage?

"I don't run the cxb because they aren't as efficient. They start at 160w, BTW, not 50w. You can always run them super low at 50w, but I prefer the 3000k that CXA offers, the 65w kind and run them at around 45w. More efficient in my testing for highest average par for 4x4.

I have been trying to beat my Goliath's super high average par for 4x4 at 2 feet away- 582. A 1000w HPS does 575 or so. PS COB does 569.

I haven't seen an LED using around the same low watts 575w (Goliath) and getting anywhere near 582 average umols for 4x4 at 2 feet away."

Don't know if I'm reading this right. My SE-450 gets 608-680 (dyslexic memory) PPFD in a 4'x4' w/o reflective walls (but are white) in a 4'6"x4'6" space. @ 36".

Sorry the section of information between " .... " was a reply from the guy that builds the perfect sun. I was asking a question based on that information regarding his statement on the efficiency of the CXB compared to the CXA cobs . As for the same topic it started out as the same topic but has digressed a little as more information came to light ( pardon the pun ) on the perfect sun range. One thing I like about the SpyderX is how close they say you can have it to the canopy .

close lights are a major disadvantage when trying to grow a deep canopy. this is one reason people dont flower with T5

Kinda limits you to that if that's the case .

My plants are happiest with my AutoCobs at ~30-36". Granted they are separate lights and I keep them spaced a bit further apart than most. IMHO those spyder lights are way overpriced for what they are. Willing to put money on the fact that as long as you have enough lights for your sq.footage, any of the current gen COBs will perform equally as well.

what i was proposing for you was a 320W driver running 6 cobs at 60W each, ~$350. its about 400W at the wall and should outyield the spydr

Bruh, I've been itching to build my own because I have a very non traditional space. I've been away for a while and cobs were just starting to come about as i was stepping away. Cobkits looks like a place I could start, I'm decently handy so is it possible to arrange cobs? Or is It pretty standard flat growing only?

I can get two COB setups for less than the SpyderXPlus.

I'm running 3500k. That's what was available in these pre-built lights. If I were to make my own I'd likely go 3000k. I haven't really looked into whether the higher numbers actually make a difference in veg. but I am curious and considering a pair of 6000k to play with.

Completely nonsense.
CXB beats CXA..
A CXA2530 driven mid hard(45w) in only more cost effective for him. Depending on which bin he uses, he probably does not get 110lm/w.
The rest is also bullshit because he use lenses to focus the light in a 60-80° beam, + center point measurements alone are useless also. You need a PAR map and/or at least average values.
A well built diy unit will be far better than his goliath!

Naw, people who own them say they are very bright & intense. More so then claimed by the comp. from what I hear you can't keep them no 6".
Willing to bet they hold decent numbers while dropping depth.

i wouldnt say it limits you but it would def make the most out of that style of light.

I prefer a white light so it doesn't mess with my eyes so bad but I don't want to get something that doesn't work as well for flowering ya know

3500k is white, pretty sure 3000k is as well. Wear good shades!
