I water my bucket til runoff outside prior to first use. Then plant/transplant into it. Since the roots are not yet established you should not need to water more than once maybe twice the roots go looking for the water, and the wick is bringing it up, if you need to water in my exp most of the soil is still wet down below so you won't be watering to run off at least I don't. IF you run the DIY outdoors the water will come out of the overflow holes if you over do it so no big deal either. Thanks for the info evil-mobo ...i am planing on diy...so lets say i start in the bucket...the thing i am worried about is what do to with the runoff from the first watering, do i just leave it there?cause it will take them i estimate 7-10 days till the roots reach the bottom and i grow in dirt so i'm a bit worried it would make a nice nesting place for all sorts of pests
It's a simple design and it works. I do not want to take the Capt's thread off track on him, so if you want send me a message or post in one of my threads and I would be happy to discuss the DIY with you. We also have a thread about the DIY and commercial systems being discussed here:
