Companion plants in grow tent

Are they stealing the light produced by my LEDs?

My cannabis plant is right under the Light but in the corners of grow tent I have some other plants like mint, lavendel. Does this cause my cannabis to take less light or is my plant still taking the full potency of the LEDs by being right in the middle of the ocverage area?

I often grow straw berries, chilli's ,,,anything delightful

in winter

winter coming on time to replant them

goes well

until the local teacher asked where I got strawberries in mid winter?

just be sure weed takes center stage

and watch out for bugs

do note tho Companion plants

in most cases mean plants that will and can protect the main/ weed plant

like comfrey for bud food, nettles for veg food, geraniums for aphids

uncooked french fries for gnats

good luck

Speaking of soil and pests, what does everyone think the best soil topper is to prevent infestations? I bought some washable furnace filter and cut it to the diameter of the pots with a center hole for the stem. Seems to be working thus far. Might have been easier to use stones or wood chips, dunno.

I would keep an eye out for algae.

Neem oil or neem cake. I've been impressed with how well it has worked for me in a few different situations.

Besides algae, whats best topping against gnats? And that kind of insects that likes to lay egg inside the soil.
I dont know if he is warning me about algae growing in topped soil or what, if so thats new to me, you would have to seriously overwater your plants I am thinking to ever see algae... but fungus gnats are what I usually end up dealing with, I haven't had any pests that would actually hurt the plants in years (spider mites) alouth if left to get out of control I am sure they would hurt the plants. They are an occasional nuisance only. I also use yellow sticky traps.

The furnace filter material. I bought two and carefully cut out 4 pot toppers. I cut the big yellow sticky traps into smaller pieces to cover the center exposed earth around the stem.

The filter is an experiment so dont take this as advice. If it still works a few grows down the road then great. If it doesnt I am still curious what others are using, I have heard perlite (but I have a hard time sourcing vermiculite and perlite, my local Home Depot doesnt stock either).

I have also heard people say diatomaceous earth.

diatomaceous earth.or crushed volcanic rock is great on your dinner greens

but soon gets every where including your lungs,

start coughing blood ....see a doc,

best to avoid

ultimately algae, and or gnats means

you over watered the wrong soil

or soil has to much water holding mix

add 25% more perlite

good luck
