Im guessing flowering is the time you would pollinate if you choose and bud grows correct, some seeds say 8-10 weeks to flowering, how long does this take once it starts to flower. Also if you pollinate the plant to get seeds for the next generation does that impact the amount of bud you get?

Assuming you start from a regular seed.

Starts as a seed,
Becomes a seedling
Then a plant in the vegetative state.
During those phases most people will
Run lights 18 hours on 6 hours off
Some run 24/0

Once the veg plant is to your liking as far as size and training you will initiate
The flowering phase by switching the light cycle to 12/12

If you are going to take cuttings this is frequently when people will.

Once 12/12 is initiated the plants start the stretch so It can stack buds.

Pre flowers will be showing sex

By week three of flowering stretch should be done and flowers should be very apparent.

I don't recommend taking cuttings after this if you can avoid it.

If you are going to seed make sure you have time for the seeds to finish.

Flowering can take anywhere from 8 to 16 weeks I suppose.

If you count flowering time from the time you change the light I would add about two weeks.
(it is not an instant change)

So if the seed pack said 8 weeks then commonly 10 weeks from flip you should be very close.
Do not harvest by a date.
Learn to judge for yourself.

Once weed is seeded the plant uses its energy to finish the seeds.

If I seed I usually do a few single buds instead of the whole plant.

Flowering is when you trick the plant into thinking summer is here and it’s time to produce fruit. As the summer gets on the days start to get shorter right, you mimic this by reducing the amount of hours your plant gets light usually it’s to 12 hours on and 12 hours off this is what we call flowering stage. Before 12 12 you can have lights on 24 hours some people prefer 18 on and 6 off it’s personal preference you can do 20 4 if you like. If you want to pollinate your plants yes you will get shit buds full of seeds good for a new generation of seeds but not what most people want to be smoking I don’t think. There are ways of pollinating a couple of buds just search YouTube. If a seed company says 8-10 week flowering it means you need to grow your plants up 24 hour light then switch there light cycle to 12 12 to start flowering phase and this should take 8-10 weeks to your finish date. Think I covered everything for you there
