Yeah sure, it can be. Maybe I did offend someone by posting it and I would own that and apologize, not double down. It certainly does not encapsulate my views or arguments, so I wouldn't defend it. If someone even says something like "more is expected of me at work because I'm a white guy", they could grow out of it and live it down, as long as they don't continue to double down on it and get defensive about it. Yeah I know, I haven't gotten any indication from you that you ever mean anything more than what is plainly in your comments so I'm not reading anything between the lines. It is a valid question and the answer is that it should be confronted in any case but that conclusions are to be drawn from the ensuing exchange.

Someone might make a joke that others deem offensive or take offense to and the response is very telling. If they say "stop being a snowflake" or wind up a screed about this or that statistic to defend their view that standards apply differently because nature or simple defend what they said as something to the effect of "it's your problem I offend you, not mine", then they are probably a bigoted ass hole. If, however, they explain context and apologize while self criticizing, accepting that they have been ignorant, then they are just growing and likely want these problems to fade away from society.

Then there's the whole other dimension where you have these people trying to push the narrative and normalize blatantly offensive stuff. Some of them spout social darwinism or intentionally misrepresent the nuances of the problems in order to draw extreme conclusions. That thread is a perfect example. I went after the guy defending chattel slavery and got very little support for it. It is about as offensive and blatantly bigoted as any ahistoricism that has been introduced on the forum but four years on people are seeing the meme and none of the context.

@UncleBuck used the N word in quotation marks and everyone points to that, but completely ignores the racist manifesto by dr kynes about how multiculturalism will destroy the white race. They completely ignore what Ginwilly said about evolving from the neck up. They completely ignore Desert Dude defending the institution of chattel slavery. They instead focus on what they didn't like about the people combatting that hatred by taking something out of context.

So I'm glad you asked the question, because the answer should determine who is harboring incorrect and offensive ignorance and hatred. It requires thought and sincerity to answer. If anyone asks me, I would say that most people have been ignorant from time to time and most of us can grow past it. If I didn't believe that, I would not take the time to change anyone's mind. No progress will be made by simply excusing ignorance and accepting it as part of the dialogue.

i don't have any hat. i don't support any party. i say what i think, and don't expect everyone to like it.i try to make decisions about politicians based on individual merit. the biggest problem with that method is finding any merit to asses.
i believe i said i don't support harassment of any kind, from either sex. i also said that if this happens to you, say something at the time, and i'll be the first one to offer support....say something ten years later, and wtf do you want me to do? how are you going to prove it? one of the tenets of our legal system is that someone is not guilty simply because someone accuses them of something, they are not guilty till it's proven. its a fuckload easier to prove when it just happened...

That's the entire point he made: Just because YOU make bad decisions and then completely fail to act to fix them or at the very least mitigate them in some way does NOT make it EVERYBODY ELSE'S PROBLEM.
