I'm late for the party...but we need to look at how we take our census. It seems to be rigged for the white count. Someone tell me how some one from the Middle-east , North Africa , Mexico...etc can very well claim white ? It is ok to use when doing a head count for this country but not ok when a Cruz shoots up a highschool ?

What does that even mean? Why can't someone from those regions be white? Is there an ethnic cleansing process I'm not aware of that eliminates white people from living there?
Are you saying you want to go back to the days where you had to be able to document your ancestry to show you had more than x% white ancestors to claim to be white?
Why does it even matter? I'm confused.

I think the point is that there is no "white" race. Historically the so-called white race lived in the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa. Not so for other races counted in the US census. It is relevant to how US economic policies are formed and in how voting boundaries are drawn up. So, not an unimportant detail.

Caucasian is a race, and people conflate that with white. I understand why they ask about race in the census, but it has nothing to with use in seting voting boundaries. The supreme court has ruled that race may not be used as a criteria in setting boundaries. Ironically though, the census data can help determine when that rule is violated.
The census is a vitally important tool in setting voting districts and determining demographic trends. It is also under attack by the putin administration. They plan to ask questions about legal status with the threat of deportation to undocumented immigrants. That can drastically skew the demographics by not counting them.
A us house voting district represents all people living in an area, not just us citizens. By not counting large numbers of people, you shift house seats to other areas.
But I digress.....
