I've got to hand it to the kid, he's not afraid to speak his mind. He just got back from 2 weeks in Japan and during the trip back to Guam, he told me that he and the guys in his shop were discussing events in the Middle East one day. Several of the guys were talking about 9/11 and the "War on Terror" that came from that event. These poor souls were talking about why we were in Iraq because of Al Qaeda. My son brought to their attention that Al-Qaeda was not present in Iraq until we invaded and occupied. He also brought to their attention that almost all of the men who flew the planes into the towers and pentagon were Saudi nationals. He asked them "Why aren't we going after the Saudi's then?" They couldn't answer it, so he answered it for them..."We're not going after the Saudi's because we're in bed with them, the real terrorists. We're in bed with them because of our relationship with them over oil. All this in spite of Saudi Arabia being the home of Wahhabi-Fascism.

Good for him. All those years of political discussion/current events at the dinner table have paid off. Of course with him in the military, I can't believe that his philosophy is too popular, but he's not afraid to call others on the rhetoric they put out. Blind patriotism is a dangerous thing.

Rarely do you hear a member of the military speak the truth. I have family in Iraq right now who are convinced that if they were not over there right now we over here would not have "freedom". I really have a hard time thinking that the same military that was defeated in a matter of hours with a home field advantage posed much of a threat to us.

Well, Saudi Arabia didn't do anything wrong, as pertains to 9/11. Some people who were born there did something wrong. Not the whole country. They've been pretty diligent fighting terrorism on their own soil, kicking ass all over the people trying to blow up their oil production facilities in an attempt to cause *us* economic harm. They're fighting the "War on Terror" on their own land, probably against their own extremist population. In other words, their Iraq is right there at home, so they're even more screwed than we are -- they can't just pull out their troops.

I'm not saying Saudi Arabia is one of "the good guys". But they're not terrorists, as a country. They're just greedy ultra-rich Arabs at the top, and they don't wish us any harm. We're their best customer!

I disagree. I work in an office w/ 20+ adults and EVERY ONE OF THEM have no clue of their candidates voting record let alone what precipitated the bailout. Just the other day I mentioned Gramm-Leach-Bliley and I was met with blank stares.

One of my employees tried to convince me of voting for Proposition 8 (overturn Gay Marriage). He's a born again Christian. When I started throwing the Constitution and the premise of individual freedom and liberty...He got frustrated because he couldn't argue his point. This was of course after I was done laughing my ass off because he should know better.

it's more popular than u think lefties r less disrespectful of others than our friends on the right , heres an example when the rt does wrong they say the left did it , in 2000 wisdom said the military voted repub. so why did the vote counters in fl and ohio look for every loophole to disqualify over seas military votes heres anouther then and reacently in alaska they said obama sent laywers first when in reality thats what the repubs did

Kudos to your son for understanding what he's serving for.

My understanding is that the reason most of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia is that it was easier and less suspicious for them to get visas. Also, many Saudis are kind of directionless. They have a lot of money and education is free, so they just end up going to school for a really long time. A lot end up majoring in Islamic studies, and being taught by these radical Wahabbis. So Saudi Arabia winds up with a bunch of angsty college graduates with degrees they can't use, who have been taught their whole lives by these crazy Muslim clerics. Not a good combination.

They're not allowed to poll the military, but all signs seem to be that they're in the tank for Obama, believe it or not. Reporters that have interviewed them tend to walk away with the impression that the soldiers are most interested in his candidacy and something like 4 out of 5 donations to the presidential campaign from a military base are to Obama. This probably has to do with the fact that the military has a disproportionate number of young minorities, but it's still pretty impressive.
