Flowering Question?

Pardon my randomness, as I am quite the noob here in the forum as well as in my cannabis growing.

My situation is a bit unique, as a friend of mine began growing a beautiful cannabis plant using an "Aerogarden," (hydroponic growing mechanism using flourescent lighting). After some time, the plant really took off, to the point in which she longer felt comfortable with it in her home, so I took it off her hands for her.

I was going to wait until after the holidays to allow it to flower, but a couple days ago, I noticed that the "white hairs" which identify a female plant had grown around the leaves, except these hairs are already that rich amber-brownish-reddish color. After seeing this, I introduced a dark period for the plant to allow it to fully flower.

My question is: Do these red hairs indicate anything? Is the plant past its prime? Did I wait too long? Perhaps, did the accelerated growth during early vegetation (with the Aerogarden) have anything to do with this? Granted, I'm extremely happy and excited to see that my plant is a sexy female, but I'm also concerned about the "white hairs" not actually being white.

Any advising is much appreciated!! Thank you for reading! bongsmilie

Those are preflowers. Its normal for preflowers to turn brown.

Yes, its about time to switch the light cycle to 12/12.

People generally keep their plants short for many reasons. Keeping the lights closer (up to 3-5 inches) helps to keep the plant height short. Forcing flowering early (after 3-4 weeks of vegetative growth) also helps.

How old is this plant?

The "white hairs" look to me like new branches that have withered before they got going. Spraying the leaves so heavily with plant food will kill it off soon. You reaaallyy need some lighting, thats most obvious. And I think you have a fungus that is barely being kept under control, possibly because its not quite humid enough. I am spraying the same fungus right now, with isopropyl alcohol. I think its got it with the first shot, but.... I never go for first shots cos I already flushed thougt it had gone, then I repotted, washing all the roots. Still no joy although every time it appeared to pick up better than before.
Is isopropyl safe?.... (rhetoric) I am also a tattoist, I had the alcohol already because I use it to thin colours when they get a bit dry. Yup....its safe enough.
