I found a few stats online, but none on the mortality rates in women before 1940 and what those mrotality rates were due to. But I'm a lookin.

I DID find out that antibiotis being introduced in the 1940s wud have an effect on the decrease in mortality of pregnant women, as many women who may not have died in childbrith dies of complications from it. That reduced infection, one of the main aggrivators of many problems.

Here is some stats I also found to show that 1940s was a turning point in childbirth and labor.

Only 5 percent of American women delivered in hospitals in 1900. By 1920, the figures ranged from 30 to 65 percent in major cities; by 1940, 55 percent of Americas births took place within hospitals; and by 1955, hospital births had increased to 95 percent of the total.

As far as state choosing their own laws concerning abortion (and almost every other issue) I actually agree. A federal law you cannot get away from, all the mysogenistic types who wanna force women to do what the men want them to (Altho those same men are only involved in the first few seconds of pgregancy, and that is all fun for them) can live in whatever state they can rule in, and those of us who cannot abide having someone else's SPIRITUAL views forced upon them could find a state with like minds.

I am all for returning the power to govern themselves back over to the states. I don't think you are gonna find women ready to go back into the dark ages, tho, and that is coming from the lips of one woman who won't. Nor will I allow my daughters to live like that, eventually it would be not much better than being female in the middle east.....
