Your right, it’s nothing new, I would think downsizing would be the natural progression of less conflict. The program that tty posted (before fact checking) is different and far less sinister as he led us to believe IMO. But again your right, but it’s been happening for years, downsizing I mean, and all numbers available to the googler.

The military has always been that way. They called it redux back then. If the numbers were not needed the military would offer a cash settlement for guys with 12-15 years to get out. It may be $50,000 or more. If you took it you didn't get to retire.

I wouldn't take it if I were in that situation. If I had 15 in I would try for five more.

Sometimes stupid shit happens. A good friend of mine was an E8 in the army with 19 years in. He was put in charge of watching a unit over a 4th of July weekend at a lake.

Some dumb E1-E3's were screwing around and shot a mortar firework across the lake and it hit a generals cabin.

It really wasn't the E8's fault. It's hard to watch that many people and he didn't want to be a hardass.

They busted him down to E6 and he spent another three years after his 20 to get to retire as an E8.

Maybe there was cause for it but I've seen a lot of guys close to retirement get screwed over for no reason other than to save some money.


I can tell you from first hand experience that it's hard to deal with the VA and get benefits that are due.
