Maximum Wage: Limiting CEO Pay

I categorically reject the notion that the only people willing and able to execute the position of CEO effectively are greedy narcissists.

This just perpetuates a wildly inaccurate stereotype and conveniently ignores the fact that bad actors get away with such behavior only because of the current legal, regulatory and business climate.
there are types of people that fit certain jobs. it's always been that way, and always will be. there are also exceptions to the rule.
if you aren't interested in the acquisition of wealth, why would you take a ceo job? because you want to make it a better company? please.
and if you did find some philanthropist who genuinely wanted to improve the company, he would probably drive it out of business.
it takes a shark to swim with sharks, and a lot of them still get eaten. throw happy pandas in the shark pool and they'll be hors d'oeuvres

How many CEOs have you personally meet and chatted up?

I've met quite a few and most of them believe in what they're doing, rather than just a payoff.

The biggest true believers are those who built the company from scratch- and they tend to have the biggest stake/most stock in the outcome.

The Martin Shkreli type is definitely in the minority. The rest are too busy doing good work and keeping their focus on the job to be grabbing headlines, which explains why you don't hear much about them.

That you're this cynical saddens me.

Tty, you're a progressive liberal involved in energy management, you're going to meet others like you. and you're going to meet a lot of bullshit artists. i don't believe for one second that the ceos of most companies are like George Bailey. i think they're a lot more like a mix of Jordan Belfort and Henry Hill.
i like you, but i think you could do with some time with poor people. i think you're losing touch with the common man, and losing perspective about what the truth looks like from the bottom up.
go to walmart, buy some khakis, and a cheap shirt, take off the nice watch and any jewelery. wear crappy cheap shoes. walk around the poor part of town. get a haircut, eat lunch at a counter. listen to what people are saying to each other. go to the park where the old guys play chess and dominoes, and talk to them. don't disagree with any of them, just nod a lot and listen.
you might be surprised what people think about things.

It is very clear that you know little about me or what I've experienced in my life.

I appreciate your advice in the spirit it's offered.

First you say Bernie is okay, then you turn around and spend most of your column inches here trashing him in favor of far more conservative candidates.

Just register as a Republican already, then we can stop calling you a hypocrite.
I'm not trashing Bernie. I'm just pointing out why you are so wrong about how great he is. Of course, being that you are the person who says "racism would go away if we just stopped talking about it" would not understand my reasons.

Bernie is OK.

He's not great but he's OK. I support his policies. I simply can't prioritize one group's civil rights over economic policies. You can, which is why I accurately called you out as a racist for supporting institutional racism.

Ninja says I shouldn't call you a racist for doing that and I figure I will stop doing so because the message isn't getting through your thick head. OK?

Peace and stuff like that.

You're a bit stuck on the idea that somehow I worship Bernie.

For the eleventeeth time, it's his ideas that appeal, not the man himself.

I realize that is a foreign concept to you.

But strawman away, it's clearly all you're good at.

I won't call you racist again for prioritizing other peoples civil rights issues after Bernie's and the Progressives(TM) platform.

Keep trying your lame little smear game, while ignoring the stunningly obvious fact that addressing the economic needs of poor people disproportionately benefits people of color, precisely because they're the most economically disadvantaged. How's that racist?

It is clear you really do stay up late nights thinking of more ways to be obtuse.

Tonight is proof!

So,

Do you still think the investigation into Russian interference in our elections and apparently collusion between Putin and Trump make him prez is just a distraction?

There's a record number of Americans homeless and hungry.

Record numbers being kicked off voter rolls.

We've given our electoral system over to the tiny minority with more money than the rest of us put together...

But sure. Tell us more about the Russians- that country with an economy the size of South Korea that hasn't threatened us. Tell us about how much of a threat they are, even while we have a military that could take on the rest of the entire planet, friends and foes alike.

Tell us we should be scared.

Give us a fucking break already.

We are facing people who are ignorant of their racism. Not overt racists. I guess that makes it OK, huh?

Perhaps you are right. I should stop talking about the racism in Bernie's platform and pointing it out to Bernie's followers. After all, the analysis showing the multi-generational harm that institutional racism or misogyny has on minorities and women is available from better sources. Bernie did say that "people are tired of political correct rhetoric". I should just give it a rest.

Heck, if we just stopped talking about racism it will go away.
Dude, you're going manic or something.

People who are "ignorant" of their own racism?

Sorry dude, but you've completely lost your mind with this blue haired SJW stuff.

Yes there is racism, yes we should point it out if it's there but no, not everything is racist.

EDIT: @schuylaar You're literally a racist, what I said above doesn't apply to you, please remove the like.

Hey, relax

I'm on record now for saying that I won't call Bernie Babies racists any more. I don't know what else one would call a white person who for the sake of a pay raise would insist that black people should put cop shootings on the back burner and let cops kill their kids or beat them whenever the cop is having a bad day. But from today on, Bernie babies are #notracist.

So relax.

I'm sorry that my calling out Bernie for his support of institutional racism offends you. I will no longer mention the institutional racism embedded in his general economic policies such as higher taxes on the rich yet does nothing to adderss racial pay inequity. Yes, racial pay inequality has persisted through good and bad times for generations but black people will just have to deal with living on 30% less pay than white men.

Give the trust fund baby a break? I don't really have to. Just don't stand near the Russian embassy when Putin is having a bad day.

And that land grab in Crimea? Yeah, that doesn't portend any more aggressive actions by Putin. I mean, just because his military spend is 5% of GDP and he's bolstering his military for peaceful reasons, I'm sure it is all a misunderstanding. His puppet Trump is helping Putin dismantle NATO. For all the very best reasons, I'm sure.

Oh, and we couldn't possibly address those social issues you are discussing while Republicans -- who Putin helped put in power -- are in charge. So, yeah, Putin's interference in our elections is just a big nothing burger.

Russia has been out hereditary enemy my whole life. i doubt i would trust them if they fully opened their borders and shot putin in the head in red square.
and that's exactly what it would take for me to even consider changing my attitude towards them.
in my opinion, we should already be sanctioning the ever living shit out of them for their interference in our elections. we should have expelled ALL of them the day it became apparent they were complicit.
the fact that trump licks putin's ass every time he's within tongue range sickens me. our country is being led by a sycophant of the former leader of the KGB.....EVERYONE should be concerned.
Russia has plans to become THE superpower in the world. i'm sure China has it's own plans. if we were smart, we'd promote tension between them, then take out the winner, after they decimate each other.
