HOW ACORN GOT ME INTO VOTE SCAM

By JEANE MacINTOSH, Post Correspondent

Christopher Barkley

CLEVELAND - Two Ohio voters, including Domino's pizza worker Christopher Barkley , claimed yesterday that they were hounded by the community-activist group ACORN to register to vote several times, even though they made it clear they'd already signed up.
MORE: E-Thief In Chains
MORE: Right: It's Loan-acy
WILL: RX For A Blowout
Barkley estimated he'd registered to vote "10 to 15" times after canvassers for ACORN, whose political wing has endorsed Barack Obama, relentlessly pursued him and others.
Claims such as his have sparked election officials to probe ACORN.
"I kept getting approached by folks who asked me to register," Barkley said. "They'd ask me if I was registered. I'd say yes, and they'd ask me to do it [register] again.

"Some of them were getting paid to collect names. That was their sob story, and I bought it," he said.
Barkley is one of at least three people who have been subpoenaed by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections as part of a wider inquiry into possible voter fraud by ACORN. The group seeks to register low-income voters, who skew overwhelmingly Democratic.
"You can tell them you're registered as many times as you want - they do not care," said Lateala Goins, 21, who was subpoenaed.
"They will follow you to the buses, they will follow you home, it does not matter," she told The Post.
She added that she never put down an address on any of the registration forms, just her name.
A third subpoenaed voter, Freddie Johnson, 19, filled out registration cards 72 times over 18 months, officials said.
"It feeds the public perception that there could be [fraud], and that makes the pillars fall down," said local Board of Elections President Jeff Hastings.
Registering under a fake name is illegal. But officials usually catch multiple registrations and toss them.
The major risk of fraud growing out of mass canvassing involves the possibility of ineligible voters filing absentee ballots, and thus avoiding checks at polling places, said Republican National Committee chief counsel Sean Cairncross.
The subpoenas come as Republicans have ramped up criticism of ACORN. Officials in Nevada raided ACORN's Las Vegas office Tuesday, accusing the group of signing people up multiple times - in some cases under phony names, like those of Dallas Cowboys.
ACORN's Cleveland spokesman, Kris Harsh, said his group collected 100,000 voter-registration cards; only about 50 were questionable, he claimed.
As for workers, "We watch them like a hawk," he said.

US retains top competitiveness ranking

By Frances Williams in Geneva
Published: October 8 2008 13:27 | Last updated: October 8 2008 13:27

The US has again topped a widely-watched index ranking country competitiveness, despite the financial crisis that has left it and other highly ranked nations facing market meltdown and a prolonged economic downturn.
Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden retain their second, third and fourth places respectively in the league table compiled by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum.
EDITOR’S CHOICE

Among the world’s economic heavyweights only two apart from the US feature in the top ten – Germany, ranked seventh and Japan, ranked ninth. The UK has dropped three places from ninth to twelfth. Singapore, Finland, the Netherlands and Canada take the remaining top ten places.

Global Competitiveness index rankingsCountry2008-20092007-2008United States11Switzerland2 2Denmark33Sweden44Singapore57Finland66Germany75Netherlands810Japan98Canada1013Hong Kong1112Britain129
The WEF, whose rankings were compiled before the current market collapse, said the UK slippage was “mainly attributable to a weakening of its financial markets”, though they continued to be among the most efficient in the world.

Jennifer Blanke, director of the WEF’s global competitiveness network, said despite the present turmoil the index was still relevant because it measured a wide range of factors important for long-term growth in productivity and living standards.
“Once the global economy emerges from the current financial crisis, which it will, the countries that do well on our index are those that are best prepared to bounce back and perform well in the longer term,” she told the FT.

The WEF’s global competitiveness index this year rates 134 countries on 12 criteria which include quality of education, labour and product market flexibility, infrastructure, macroeconomic stability and “financial market sophistication”.
Like the rival index produced by the Swiss-based IMD business school, the WEF index relies heavily on the views of business executives as well as statistical data, and the rankings depend crucially on the weights given to the various factors.
This helps to explain some oddities in the WEF rankings. For instance, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are ranked above China (30), while now bankrupt Iceland (20) tops rich and solid Luxembourg (25).

The WEF says Gulf countries are moving up the competitiveness league helped by high oil revenues which have improved government finances, better institutions and a friendlier business environment.
Meanwhile, though China benefits from huge foreign and domestic markets, its overall score is dragged down by perceived inadequacies in financial regulation and corporate governance, among other things.
However, there are relatively few surprises at the bottom of the table, with Chad, Zimbabwe and Burundi vying for the least competitive spot.

Pollster: Don’t believe the Dem hype

The presidential race is still too close to call and could come down to the very last weekend before voters decide if they like or distrust Barack Obama, a national pollster predicts.

“I don’t think Obama has closed the deal yet,” pollster John Zogby told the Herald yesterday.

Zogby’s latest poll, released yesterday in conjunction with C-Span and Reuters, shows Obama and John McCain in a statistical dead heat, with the Illinois Democrat up 48-45 percent.
http://a.collective-media.net/jump/cm.bostonherald/;sz=300x250;click0=http://oascentral.bostonherald.com/RealMedia/ads/click_lx.ads/bh.heraldinteractive.com/news/national/politics/2008/article/L60/2129940191/Middle/BostonHerald/CollectiveMediaRON300x250Oct2007/CollectiveMediaRON300x250Jan08.html/516743346b30692f2b52454143556167?;ord=2129940191
Zogby said the race mirrors the 1980 election, when voters didn’t embrace Ronald Reagan over then-President Jimmy Carter until just days before the election.

“The Sunday before the election the dam burst,” Zogby said of the 1980 tilt. “That’s when voters determined they were comfortable with Reagan.”
Now voters are wrestling with two senators with opposite resumes - Obama, at 47, the unknown, and the established 72-year-old McCain.
Zogby said he’s still hearing from moderates and non-partisan voters - what he calls “the big middle” - who are still shopping for a candidate.
“It still can break one way or the other,” Zogby says.

The Numbers
The three-day survey polled 1,220 likely voters - about 400 people a day. Zogby will continuously poll right up until the November election.
The latest poll numbers may reflect the bump that McCain received after his running mate, Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin sparred with Obama’s running mate, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden during the first and only vice presidential debate last week.

The poll shows that the two White House contenders have no problem attracting support from their own parties.
Obama is winning 84 percent of the Democratic Party support and McCain has 85 percent of the GOP support, but Obama has the edge among sought-after Independent voters.

He leads McCain among independents, 48 percent to 39 percent, according to the poll.

Obama also has support from a slightly higher percent of conservative voters than McCain gets from liberal voters, but the advantage is small, according to the poll.

Pollsters surveyed 1,220 likely voters and asked approximately 39 questions. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.

hey...I can cut and paste also...
Bill Ayers and Barack Obama at one time lived in the same neighborhood in the city of Chicago, and both had worked on education reform in the state of Illinois. The two met "at a luncheon meeting about school reform."[41] Obama was named to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge Project Board of Directors to oversee the distribution of grants in Chicago. Later in 1995, Ayers hosted "a coffee" for "Mr. Obama's first run for office."[42] The two served on the board of a community anti-poverty group, the Woods Fund of Chicago, between 2000 and 2002, during which time the board met twelve times.[42] In April 2001, Ayers contributed $200 to Obama's re-election fund to the Illinois State Senate.[41] Since 2002, there has been little linking Obama and Ayers.[42] The senator said in September 2008 that he hadn't "seen him in a year-and-a-half."[43] In February 2008, Obama spokesman Bill Burton released a statement from the senator about the relationship between the two: "Senator Obama strongly condemns the violent actions of the Weathermen group, as he does all acts of violence. But he was an eight-year-old child when Ayers and the Weathermen were active, and any attempt to connect Obama with events of almost forty years ago is ridiculous."[41] CNN's review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the non-profit projects in which the two men were involved.[44] Internal reviews by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time magazine, The Chicago Sun-Times, The New Yorker and The New Republic "have said that their reporting doesn't support the idea that Obama and Ayers had a close relationship".[

Nobody is buying this Ayers BS. Ayers did some bad shit before half the population was even born. They live in the same neighborhood, and work on the same charitable organization (run by a Republican). Big fucking deal.

I'm much more interested in McCain's serving on the board of a pro-Nazi right-wing organization involved in illegal activities. His name was on their letterhead for years. If people wanna lambast Obama for buying a house in the wrong neighborhood, okay, but keep things in perspective. Trading weapons to Iran for money to send to Nazi sympathizing death-squads seems just a LITTLE worse.

And what was Cindy McCain doing not too long ago? Oh yeah, stealing medicine intended for the poor from a charity. Talk about a rich cheapskate. I wonder how many people suffered so she could steal drugs to feed her addiction. If I had $100 million, 9 houses, and 13 cars, I'm reasonably sure I could score some drugs without stealing them from a charity.

Dank ...

If you do a little research, you'll find that Ayers WAS prosecuted for the bombings but the FBI used illegal wiretaps and the case was thrown out of court. Ayers has admitted to what he did as a member of the Weather Underground ... and has never repented. In fact, he's on record as saying that he's proud of what he did.

Vi
So you saying guilt by association. Brilliant...
Oh BTW the Organization Bill Ayers was in was called the Weathermen not the Weather Underground.

Obama served in an education-reform organization with Ayers (God forbid the kids get a better education). He also helped with charitable work in the community along with Ayers. (God Forbid he helped the poor too)
If that's all you got, then it's pretty weak.
Just remember that when Ayers was engaged in such act, Obama was 8 years old.
What's next, are you going to say that the Weathermen recruited an 8 year old Black Child to plant the bomb?

Personally I think that Palin's claim is weak and that when she stated that crap, the McCain Campaign was snatching at straws.

The Bill Ayers Controversy had been addressed early in Obama's Campaign and it didn't stick then. In This article dated April 18, 2008

If Hitlery err I mean Hillary couldn't make it stick, what makes you think that the McCain Camp can?

Secondly, What Bill Ayers and Bobby Rush did 40 years ago have nothing to do with the 2008 presidential campaign.

You know, 2012 is alleged to be the end. If McCain wins this election how many will scoff at the end being in 4 years?

PS comparing Americans fighting the American revolution in America is really not the same as the Iraqi's being dominated and Americans going to "free" them. I bet you think apples and oranges are the same too.

Say what you will about the Weather Underground, but they only caused property damage and made it a point not to kill or injure anyone. I know it sounds shitty to defend him, but to say he blew up stuff with no regard to people's lives isn't true. If he had killed people, I guarantee you he'd be in jail right now.

You're lying about the "friends and close business associates" part. They served on a board together. You're saying Obama should have left the board, and allowed Ayers that much more control over Chicago's educational system?
