Can someone test the 72 hours darkness before harvest myth...

Lol I haven't heard this in a long time. You can submerge your medium in a bucket of water and let the roots ferment the last 10 days before harvest. Supposed to be a quicker cure. Tried it but couldn't keep up with the water level. I was lazy and it was an auto.

Longer lights are off less chlorophyll is in the plant. Meaning better taste and smell. I’d leave in dark for maybe 36 to 48.

Have to consider that most methods seem sound on paper but not in practice.

Ive done 72 hour dark periods and plant matter just fills with water promoting mold and stuff. Leaves get limp and stuff.

Just the basic stuff that happens when you kill most transpiration and photosynthesis for three days.

I cant recomend this and if you have a packed tent in a cooler country its not the best idea.

I have read plenty of threads where people claim that there buds had better taste, odor, color, smoothness, and thc levels after the plant sat in darkness 72 hours before harvesting... Supposedly inducing 72 hours of darkness mimics winter and makes plants put a final ummff into there buds.. But, I haven't seen anyone actually test this myth and have two exact plants.. One in light.. Other in 72 hours of darkness before harvesting.. Then compare the two plants buds.. Is this bullshit? can someone please test this? Feel free to leave any comments or opinions (good or bad i don't care). Ohh and one more thing im gonna say again. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TEST THIS... Thanks guys

I did put mine for 72 hours of darkness before harvest, all i can say is i think it was more harmful than beneficial, but i think its cus i made a big mistake starving them flushing for 2 weeks with 350ppm water, i imitated killing plant more than the winter,

I think the right way to go is to feed the plant till the last 2-3 days before harvest and then to flush with clean water, so the plant has time to store energy for his few last days to produce the wanted effect of swelling.
You can also shorten the light time to 11-13 it may cause the trichomes to mature faster.

The final bud was great but a preharvested bud was exactly just the same, no difference at all. (harvest in a 3 days difference)

My guess is the whole thing around that myth is faster maturing of the trichomes which makes a change in terpene profile.

If anything, research is showing using a 10k bulb the last week will produce more trichomes. The plant overproduces to protect from the harmful rays. If darkness for days would produce more, I don't know - I wouldn't waste time trying to find out when people have shown an effective way (10k bulb) that makes sense.

Is that used in addition to, or instead of, LEDs? Is it used for the entire daylight period, or only a portion of it?

There is alot of misinformation going around even today, but im amazed when i see posts from like 2012 and prior, how completely lost people were back then with regards to growing! There are a million of these so-called techniques to supposedly increase trichomes or potency at the end, to me, it's all myth!
I have heard of people either putting freezing water in for the last waterings, or even letting the plant feel frost by putting out in the frigid cold for a few hours lol..in the end, the concept is the same, stress the hell out of her right before chop so she panics and starts pumping out extra trichomes in a last ditch effort to catch some pollen and seed itself. I don't know where or who started all these folklores, but rest assured, the plant will not be bigger, or more potent, or finish smoother or whatever people want to believe lol..its like those stones they sell on infomercials, just carry it with you, and the energy from it cures all that 'YOU' want it to lol.

I've done it more than once with multiple strains and have also done a side-by-side comparison with near identical plants from the same mother:

I observed that on some strains the pistils become darker and fuller than on the plants that did not get the dark period (not a desired effect)

I could not notice any observable difference in trichome production and/or size between the plant in the dark and the control

Newbies should just stick to simply making bud, flush cure three day darkness all un-needed and pointless to the fact you can do it bettter without.

+1, I also realized that, those options are for specific scenarios like flushing when determined high salt levels, or darkness to imitate winter to give last maturing shot, about curing
I can't agree with because if you gonna smoke it yourself you just have to know how to store your buds and their qualities at their best.
if you don't you will just end up with lower grade product, it may be grade A but if you gonna smoke it, it has to be grade AAA+.
