Lux is just a measure of how many lumens in an area,it doesn't take into account the spectrum/colour of the light or the source of the light.

You need a spectrometer for that... did I say that right I seen a guy using one pretty cool

I think a par meter is good to measure intensity.

I've got one built into my multimeter but they are not the best for testing grow lights,for that you want to measure PAR (Photosynthetically Available Radiation) and those meters don't come cheap.

That's the way I test grow room liggting,if you can work in the room without getting a light dose of welders flash you need more light
