Think about it..,troll
I thought about it when I typed it out. It's what we call a "personal opinion". But it seems that you take my opinions personally. If it causes you to get emotional, you can always disregard!

I have a feeling that by strip build you mean a ghetto build with some L channel or a baking sheet and no reds...that's alot different than this I understand the spread issue i have like 40 quantum boards and a par meter. It's just not a fair to compare 2 totally different products

Yeah exactly you could probably even get 6 of these for the price of a comparable strip build or cob build seems like these would be better unless you have some crazy height restrictions
Why dont you explain yourself a little bit so I have an idea what you're talking about?

6 96s + drivers you're about 750-850.. plus framing in a non "ghetto manner.

Price out strips, including red and non "ghetto" framing/hs.. maybe Im missing something here.. Please tell me how the 96s are so much "better"

You were talking about double shipping price in your earlier comment.. Maybe Im stupid/high but you're kinda confusing me o_O

I think his problem with your personal opinion is it's not based on personal experience. Your way to hyped on spread you don't need led covering every inch of your canopy

I personally think the 96s server a market, but it's more of an entry level thing. If you have the time and skill to build a custom strip build with supplemental in the areas you want it, you will likely be better off. You will also create less of a hot spot. It really depends on the size of your room, the temps, exhaust, etc. The 96s use less efficient LEDs than strips with lm301b diodes, so it is more of a flavor and skill thing IMO. Regardless, I am just glad to see fewer people using MH and HPS with the higher risk of a fire.

And he's entitled to his opinion on my opinion, as are you. Getting worked up over it seems quite silly to me. Especially because I did not make any definitive statement, nor did I claim to be an expert on the subject. My words were "Don't think this is really suited...", which is clearly tentative.

And yes, I care about spread. I happen to think that uniformity is a primary concern. Again, that's my opinion, and if someone gets bent out of shape over it, that's their prerogative, but it certainly won't prevent me from voicing it.

Your strength of feeling regarding the opinion of a stranger on the internet is telling. Why do you care what I think (or don't think)?

Ok here's a comparable strip https://www.pacificlightconcepts.com/product/photo-boost-strip-light-engine/ by comparable I mean white and red diodes on the same pcb if you can find a cheaper option feel free to correct my math. $28 each you need 16 so that's $448 for the boards heatsinks you would order from heatsink USA that's about $73. So for the strip build we are looking at $521 you have to order from 2 places so you pay shipping twice it probably won't amount to double I'm willing to say I'm wrong about the shipping it is a little more expensive but not double. Frame and driver are the same cost for both builds so we don't need to do the math on those. As far as "better" you brought up cobs and strips being better I said you could probably get 6 qb96 that would probably be a better option. I think that statement remains mostly true after looking closer the strip build is about 2.7 umol unfortunately they don't have umol numbers yet for the qb96 at a low enough current to see how effecient they are at 100w so I'm not sure if you would need 5 or 6 to match effeciency. If you only need 5 you would be saving like $30 with the QB96 if you need 6 the qb96 build would be $70 more expensive so it's pretty close. What makes the qb96 better is the build process yeah you could tape the strips on that would be easy but if you decide you want a few screws holding your strips on that's alot of drilling and tapping and mounting 6 strips is alot easier than 16. So I guess you could say it's about the same but strips and cobs are in no way better it just comes down to the space your using and how much time you want to spend on the build.

as far as spread i think of these as cob replacements. maybe because i've always ran my cobs fewer in number and pretty hot it's not much of stretch for me to think of running these a little hotter and hanging em a little higher. sure they aren't for shorter tents but if you have 4'x4'x-at-least-7' i think 4 of em at 640w is gonna kick ass in there. which is what i have, and what i'm after. i can't wait to try em next cycle.

as far as spread i just think of these as cob replacements. maybe because i've always ran my cobs few in number and pretty hot its not much of stretch for me to think of running these a little hotter and hanging em a little higher. sure they aren't for smaller tents but if you have 4'x4'x-at-least-7' i think 4 of em at 640w is gonna go grow some good flowers. which is what i have, and what i'm after. i can't wait to try em next cycle.

:)
I'd love to see 1 of these in a 3x3 @ 300w vs a 315 cmh i wonder how different the par map would be.

I ‘m somewhat better than naively thinking 4 at 200w each at 18” in a 4x4is gonna be sweet, but we’ll see...2-3 in a 2x4 at 18”, too... unfortunately i don’t think a single is worth the price of light plus driver....

Remind me, i’ll crank my 240 to 300 and check it, but i think the spread of a single is too narrow for sufficient ppfd across a 3x3 at any ht...but willing to eat those words....

also thought about running 4 96s is my 3x3 at 100w each, figured spread would be similar to the cobs i have there now just added red.

Plan to do 40w increments 120-240, and some special requests on all configs....

That added red is valuable stuff, and can be leveraged further with the right amount of far red. @Randomblame knows his spit on this stuff, thinks equiv of 1-2 gromau5 pucks per 96 will deliver emerson and initiator effects....will be testing that, too

The QB96s 2.35 umol/j at 170 watts is looking pretty good.
It's just the best efficiency result on the market at this Wattage for only 96 chips, it's incredible, now let's hope they will test it in the same laboratory that has tested the HLG 550 v1 at 2.3 µmol/j. Luminus + Lumiled chips seems to be the next big thing.

I don't think it will be uniform at all but if it's even close to the 315 cmh that's pretty good considering it would cost less than $250
