5x5 - What lights are you running?

I recently switched from a 2x2 to a 5x5. Right now I just have a single 315w CMH. I’m only using about 3 square feet of the tent with 4 plants.

I don’t know if I should keep the 315 and add a couple more of them, maybe add some HPS instead

Three 315s, two of them and a 400 or 600 HPS, sell the 315 and just get a 1kW?

Really not sure which direction to go.

315w CMH for veg and 630w CMH for flower (not the DE version, the one with dual 315w bulb) perfect for 5x5. Make sure your exhaust fan is 750 cfm or higher, helps with the heat. A 630w unit runs 12°F hotter than the room you're pulling air from. Hps's run about 20°F hotter outside air temp, plus the CMH light does wonders with trichome development. I'm very happy with mine.

Thanks for the info. The air I’m pulling into the tent is in the mid 60s °f. My fan is really underpowered though, 4” 200cfm I was using in the 2x2

What bulbs do you use with the 630w? Do you use something different between veg/flower?

In my 5x5 I have dual Phillip's 3100k bulbs, my exhaust fan is a 8" 780 cfm inline fan. 3100k bulbs are good for veg and flower

since you've already got a cmh, id say get a 600 hps. probably the most cost effective, and its only a spectrum bonus to mix lighting.
if you want to go a different route, you could build a LED fixture to surround the CMH. maybe 3 (1120mm/4ft) EB strips on each side, so twelve total, powered by a couple meanwell hlg-320c-1050a drivers. Im not an expert by any means, but I use those drivers with my strips and they have really helped me cut back on heat as well as electricity.

Only issue I'd see is the light intensity being so different between a cmh (24"- 36" hanging height) and eb strips (12" -22")

I'd probably say cob type fixtures would fit more readily ran around veros / chiLed pucks/ qb 96 v2 engines.

I'd think a 315 cmh in the center and 4-6 pucks each at 100w on a 4x4 frame would be pretty snazzy in a 5x5.

(If you guys aren't following buildasoil, they have a side by side going on with mixed led+cmh vs Led only about day 40 into flower pretty neat)

I am currently using 2 315w cmh (same as yours) and a blurple with the center 1/3 burnt out. Phillips 31000 in them.
