Mama's dead to. Is a back cross fully necessary ? And would throwing one of the F1s over an F5 just take me back to the start and make it unstable again? I have read that when you get to about f3 the strain is very unstable and by f5-6 it starts to become stable?
It all depends on your selections and whether or not the traits you're trying to lock in are recessive or dominant.
F2 should have the widest variation after that each successive gen should show more uniformity for the selected trait/s.
If you're not starting to see what you're after by F4,going back and reselecting from the f2 stock is a good idea.

Selfing a plant is a good way to lock traits in as well,it's really common technique commercial again breeders use

Just in case anyone else wanted to know what Selfing is.
Definition - What does Selfing mean?
Selfing is the ability of a plant, or the intentional coordination of environment to achieve selfing, to produce seeds without being pollinated by another plant or requiring another plant for any part of seed production.

Plants that can “self” are hermaphroditic plants that self-pollinate. A selfed plant will produce male and female flowers, but its progeny may not be true to form or express all of the desired traits of the mother.

Without homozygous alleles, the offspring of a selfed plant will display a diversity of phenotypes based on the recessive or dominant nature of the genes.

MaximumYield explains Selfing
Plants that undergo selfing cannot produce male only plants; they create female only and hermaphroditic seeds. This makes the prospect of future crosses or hybridization problematic. The female plants resulting from selfing may also carry the hermaphroditic trait.

Selfing is generally only a helpful practice to breeders when the desired traits of the mother plant happen to be homozygous, otherwise, at best, 75 per cent of the wanted attributes will be present in the offspring’s phenotype.

A criticism of selfing as a propagation method is owed to its diminishing returns. Many growers claim a loss of vigor with successive generations of selfed plants.

It is an expensive habit, that's for sure. On the upside, I have more to show for the money spent on genetics vs the money I wasted on piss over the years
Tru that dude would love to have those cake fighter, I’m gonna try a order with shoe one day soon he got some good prices for bodhi

I'm hoping to select some cuts (for personal smoke and for crossing) and do open polinations of a lot of the packs (that's going to take time) I have, to preserve the strains.

For sure mate, that’s kinda what I wanna do, if I find something special will definately keep it going, and will next year have one tent just for crossing, hoping to find a couple of really good male preferably from the cake or gelato crosses. Heaps of potential I also wanna do something with this grape og which smells like grape Fanta it’s crazy

Copy copy. Ive only had them throw ones same as dad ,mum or a mix of both. The main traits I'm chasing is yield ,potency and environmental strength for out doors as in strength for pests, wind, mold ect . I always clone each female and pic the one that ends up giving me what I want and just pollinate that chosen plants clone. Am I on the right path?
