Depends how you fish. If your just going to drop a line and soak a bait then be prepared for boredom.
If you use lures, know a few good productive spots and you actively chase the fish its a whole different ballgame.

I would probably resist the urge to try and step it up because in the end all it will do is add more pressure to your relationship.
If you really feel that way about her. Start saving. Start making moves to go visit her and in doing so you will show her how serious you are. Actions speak louder than words.

I often do both, have a baited line out and lure fish as well, Which is what I did today threw out a surf rod with a triple set up with whitebait and worked the river mouth with a few lures on a spin outfit hoping for a sea runner. I have some series $$ invested in lures and rods and reels and stuff but I cant fish all day. A few hrs is bloody nice and relaxing but I get bored fast.
