Okay almost everything is set and done.
I Can see the water flowing when the pump is working.
Oxygen seems good in the water.

Just again .. That fucking noise
It's very loud and i'm a bit afraid of the neighbours or people visiting us. Because when going in our frontdoor you hear it directly.
So for today : Looking up how to isolatie an entire room or only the tent
(It seems that my pump noise in the soundbox was wayy quiter then when i installed it now .. )
Letting the water stay in the boxes to check if other leaks occure. So far nothing so..

I'm really going nuts from the buzzing sound.
So i already bought some wall-isolation, not that much only 4m².
I used already a bit for around my softbox. Didn't affect alot though.
I'm incling to place the rest underneath my tent. Any opinions on that ?
And i'll be looking for more in the meantime to wrap my whole tent lol.

Anyone got opinions on this ?
Should i use glass wool ?
Or plates ?

Does this tent grow anything?

As i said, the noise was killing me.
So i wrapped the whole tent in some 2nd hand wall isolation. ( above, underneath and around)
Must say , i'm pretty happy with the result. It's only a small buzzing sound anymore and the dripping sound of the waterfalls.
This is the front. Seems strange yes but i had to make it myself obviously. Since the room is small i decided to make 2 parts who could be easily taken of.
The other ones are done properly without wood.
Next days i'm going for a check up with the neighbours while letting the system run.

And whilst doing this all. I practiced a bit again with the filling up & draining the whole system.
Only bad thing is my arms are itching as hell from the isolation.

Which i remarked.
I did a testrun without water and it was even more quiet then it is now.
Whilst reading i saw that someone mentioned that the airpumps should be above the waterlevel for pressure concerns. This should give less sound also ? True ?

Think about all of those glass fibres sticking to your buds, going through your pumps ect. I would have made a small insulated box off to the side and out the pumps in that.
You should try growing something soon.. what will you be putting in there, Clones or seed?

I made a small insulated box already remember.. That was the brown box in the middle.
I think i won't have problems with those glass fibres if i keep things clean in the room. Maybe i can tape some of the isolation , will check that out tomorrow.

I'm going for seeds. Bought 15 Autoflowers already. 4 different strains, almost all purple ones.
Tomorrow or day after i'll start the process.

Thing is i don't find those rockwool pots in my country..
So i'm wondering if i just can use isolation for my seeds to grow in

It shouldn't really make a difference between rock wool and glass fibre insulation. My guess is the difference is in the sterilisation and fibre direction. Your roots need to go down and rockwool is mostly linear letting the root penetrate down. Remember that most rockwool has a high PH so soaking in a lower solouton is absolutely necessary before germination to lower the PH. Also rockwool can be too wet so give it a shake out and water only a few drops of PH balanced water now and then. I have lost many seeds to soggy, high PH wool.
Edit: I just read this...
Although it is true that rockwool was originally manufactured as building insulation, horticultural rockwool shares few properties with the stuff that keeps your house warm in winter and cool in summer. Plants won’t grow in the insulation material because that material does not absorb water at all.

The fact that the two materials look similar has given rise to urban legends regarding reuse, toxicity and disposal. At the end of the plant life cycle, horticultural rockwool can be reused to grow different plants, or you can shred it to be composted and then reused in potting mixes or in garden beds.

I decided to buy these ones ;

Next time i'll use the rockwool things instead, but now i didn't want to wait much longer to start and this was the only thing i found in my city.
+ I've had good germinations results with these things so..

LED lamps are at 85cm height now.
Making the RO water atm. (which takes some time lol)

To start
RO water+ small bit of regular water because it will take ages otherwise.
Placing my heater in my res & put it on 24°C + heat the entire room
PH between 5.5-6.3
EC around 140ppm / 0.2 EC

When seedlings show some roots after 4-7days
30ml hydro A+B
30ml rootstim
And gradually work my way up to 120ml each in the first 3weeks.

Ok... Jiffys are good too just watch They're not too damp... Also if you're going into hydro you will need to wash the dirt off and put the seedlings into something like clay balls. Otherwise you will see a lot of dirt circulating through your system. Don't add nutes until you have the second set of leaves looking strong. Until then sufficient light and a good environment will carry you through. I love it how every aspect of this operation is a struggle. Keep posting mate.

Haha true that Blent ! Thanks for all the advice.
I have those clay pebbles. Already saw i need to wash them out very good before using them.
My RO machine is still dripping, guess it will be enough this evening or tomorrow.
So probably tomorrow evening i'll start the system :D Then i don't have any classes anymore for this week so i can keep a close eye.

Just a bummer that i have a waterleak around my RO machine. And i don't have the tools to get it loose and use more teflon lol. So each hour i have to clean up the water that's on the floor next to my ro machine.

I mean wash the jiffy dirt away... You don't want to put them straight into the clay balls... Do you? They will break apart and put dirt through the system... You should raise the seedlings first in a propogator and establish some good roots before adding them to the system.? You still have leaks?

Well that was my initial plan after i found out i couldn't buy rockwool in my country..
So yes i was going to put them in the jiffy and directly in the clay balls. That would be much easier then first unsprout them on another place..
Because the jiffy's could support the stem etc trough the clay balls.. I have no clue how to do it without? Then i would have to place the stem between the balls ? Which seems very dangerous to me.
I was thinking to let the jiffy dry out after the stems got trough and went into the balls. En just let it be there until the end of everything.

And no leaks inside my tent no.
But yes i have one outside my tent on the place where i tap my RO water. As a student i don't have alot of working materials ..
I need a big pair of pliers to remove the connection and do it again.( I did it with my bair hands and can't get it loose now lol)

So this time i will just try it like this. And when they come out, i'll put some alu foil between the jiffy and the clay pebbles.

I just tested one jiffy with RO water

PH 6.2
EC 142
PPM 66

Seems about right to me.
But indeed i see alot of the jiffy parts swimming around in my small tray.
The downside of the jiffy doesn't has a net apparantly.

Well this gives me some thinking next hours.
I really don't like touching those small plants because it gives me stress and them too. ( i mean sprouting them in those jiffy's and then pulling the jiffys apart to plce them on the clay )

If i do this, do i use a pincet ? Or just my fingers ?
And get i just trow them in the clay balls ? They can find their way to the waterreservoir ?

As long as the clay balls are moist and you keep the water touching the bottom of the net cup they will continue to absorb water through capillary action. Yes you can carefully transplant a naked seedling into just clay balls... Heck I've sprouted other crops such as basil directly in clay balls like this. Yes you do need to be careful but I think it's better than having jiffy 'dirt' floating around your system. Jiffys are made from peat moss which is pretty similar to Coco, they should have netting around them otherwise they would fall apart everywhere. If you think they will stay dry then you need to wait until you have significant root activity then place them on a layer of clay balls at the bottom of the net cup. My advice would be to not rush these things into your system.. you can give them a light feeding in the Jiffys for a good week after sprouting before they go in.. I feel like you will be impatient here..? I'd say go with your original plan if you feel uncomfortable. Just make sure that when you put them in your system you begin with the water only just touching the bottom of the net cup and have a layer of clay under the jiffy, so as the jiffy is not in direct contact with the water. Until you see the first roots reach down through the net cup then you can lower the water level.. if you do decide to open the jiffy and wash the roots clean, do not be afraid to use your clean hands.. They're a lot softer than pincers and all you do is carefully drop the clay balls around the stem and roots until the plant stands on its own... Do not be afraid of the clay damaging the roots... It won't as long as you just leave it alone... Do you know clay balls need to be washed and soaked for up to 24 hours to ensure they're full of water?
Please be careful not to get your dick stuck in the ceiling fan.

Might be a good question to ask the community... Can I put a jiffy into my rdwc system?
Another note is that if you decide to open the Jiffys and transplant a naked seedling you may have difficulty getting the roots out of the jiffy netting... I've done this a lot and it just takes patience.

putting jiffy in a dwc system generally isnt a good idea. any organic matter really.
I use hydroton in my system and had luck starting with rapid rooters in a tray. basically the same idea, but they dont come apart like jiffy pellets can.
I started in a tray and transplanted them ones they had some roots by justdigging a hole in my hydroton setting the rooter in there and filling back in around it. was easy enough.

So they girls are sprouting , 2nd day now and some already comming up.
In the meantime i'm filling my buckets with clean RO water and i will be testing the ph down stuff today..
Bummer but no indications are given on my bottle ph down. So i went looking for indications on other bottles where i found 0.5ml to 1L. Altough that concentration of Posphoracid is lower so i might want to add a bit less.
Anyway, my PH is around 8 with my bubblers running & waterpump with only 80L in it.
So if i make i mistake i can add more water to get it right.
Meanwhile i'll be writing all down.

And i've been reading more about the jiffy things. I might just take the roots out and place them in the balls with care!
Balls are now been drowning in hot water since yesterday.

Ph is going to piss you off at first with fresh ro water. When you take all that stuff out of it it becomes very unstable ph wise. When you first start, it may take you a few days to get it to stay stable. Some of this will depend on your nutrients and if you calmag it first. Just dont freak out if it drifts a lot at first. If you ph clean ro water with litte or no nutrients in it, it may only take a few drops for your whole system. The lower ppm your water starts, the more reactive it is going to be to ph adjustments. If its low ppm you may overshoot your goal and have to adjust back and forth for a few days before it stabilizes.

On fresh fill or change I'll put all my stuff in and give it 15-20 mins to settle out then I'll ph it to the range I want it in small doses waiting 10-15 mins between each. Once I get it there I'll leave it over night and do it again the next morning and following night. Mine usually settles out after 3rd adjustment.

Start with like 1ml and give it a bit to circulate and see what it does. Just be patient with it.
I adjust my 90 gallon system with 5-10ml doses of the GH ph up and down at a time after.

LOL i should have read your comment first.

So i added 10ml on 80l with ph8 and ppm 16 (500scale)
Now i have ph 3.2 and 0.8EC + added 20l RO water
I'm letting the pump run and settle it for now.
Also making new RO water in case it all fails. Damn should have started with 1ml

I guess i will have to clean everything out again ? And start over ?
My tank only needs 50L more , I don't think the RO water will stabilize the ph to 5.5-6.3 right ?
