Hash in ISO

Hoping that someone can help me out with something that’s really confusing me. I was given 14g of hash - it was low to mid quality for the UK and I didn’t want to smoke it so I decided that since it was free I would mess about to see if I could use it in a e cig.

In short I grated the hash as much as possible and put it in the freezer for 24hrs along with the ISO. I then soaked the hash in the iso and left it overnight - I know if you are making QWISO you want a very short amount of contact with between the flower and the ISO but as it was hash I wasn’t sure if the same applied.

Anyway after filtering and evaporating I was left with a nice amber oil. However when I scraped this up is became a thick black tar. I decarbed this and mixed with PEG for a very strong cartridge.

My question really is - I got back 3g oil from the 14g hash which seems like a very low yield (21%) from something that should be quite concentrated already given what it is. Why could that be? What confused me even further was that in the filters I was left with a sludge that had the texture of wet powdered hash so I dried that out and it looks like super dusty kief. It burns terribly and has no real smell....what could this be? I’m interested because this weighed like 7g so if it’s a contaminant (like dirt? Closest thing it resembles) then that’s not good!

Also what happened to the rest of the original product? 3g oil + 7g unidentifiable powder = 10g. Where did the other 4g go?

Rule of thumb

ISO is good for everything, BUT smoking/vaping.

Ethanolnos good for everything, including smoking/vaping.

It's the residual iso you may be smoking.

Also, never use peg400. It turns into foremaldeheyde st high temps. VG is a nasty oil, and leaves a horrible film in your mouth and throat.

Use something else, I've mentioned it numerous times.
The "powder" can be plant material finnes. Those will clog a coil asap

you could microscope the powder shit leftover to see if its plant particulate and trichome stems. 21% seems low unless it was really crappy hash.... if its already mixed with peg there's no going back unless you want to do a heated H2O wash in a sep. funnel (ask me how i know lol). the decarbed crude should have been low enough viscosity to heat and inject into a vape cart and use without any diluent. (aske me again how i figured this out lol)

Thanks for your answer - I’m aware that ISO isn’t the best but Ethanol is heavily regulated in the UK so unless I go with some 40-50% vodka for example ISO is my only option. Obviously there are other solvents and methods but these are not readily available to me. For reference it’s 99%IPA, the other 1% is water.

I suspect that the powder is indeed plant material - this was quite low grade and was likely produced by filling a bag with weed and whacking it to make the trichs come off which always results in plant material getting mixed in. Way more aggressive than bubble hash method for example.

In terms of the PEG solution - it’s a blend of PEG 400, PEG 200 and PG. I’m aware that some users are concerned with the health effects but I take these with a pinch of salt. All of the studies I have seen only resulted in dangerous byproducts when the PEG was significantly heated. I’m vaping as low as possible with just enough heat to create vapour so I’m not worried. There is no way I could vape this straight as it’s basically tar.
Maybe if I winterise it and remove some of the waxes it will become more naturally fluid? What else do you suggest? I’ve tried the coconut oil (the right stuff not the cooking oil - can’t remember what it’s called) and it tastes like I’m vaping a frying pan...any other suggestions? I also have no bad experience with VG and use max VG in all my normal ecig tanks. I don’t use it for this as it doesn’t readily mix with the hash oil.

Any suggestions as to why my oil is basically like tar? Almost looks more like RSO. Still gets me messed up if I smoke it but the taste isn’t great.

Any suggestions to improve my technique before I buy a load more better hash?

Imo, your best best is to just ingest it vs trying to vape it. In not here to give you shit on vaping foremaldeheyde, thats all on you, and your call. I can only tell you what happens to peg once vaped, and why we use a much better and safer product. I make 500+ carts a month. My ppl would KILL me of I used peg or vg.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Can you shed some light on the alternative you use to PEG? I know I can vape the oil straight but it’s not cheap in the UK so I need to dilute it for both ease of vaping but also for financial reasons. I’ve tried a friends before that use MCT Oil but it was gross tasting, like chemically varnish

My ideal result would be to have something I can vape in a pen - whilst I can eat it straight I really miss smoking so I want something that at least has some of the same ritualistic feel if you get what I mean

Thanks mate I’ll give it another go!

Is the process any different? I had a quick look online but any info I found related to making much larger quantities than I am dealing with which makes the process difficult to follow when only making a few ml at a time especially when it comes to heating. What ratio would you use and is it possible to mix terpenes in when using MCT?

Can I add the hash oil to the MCT and microwave in short burst like you can with many of the wax liquidisers?

I cant give out my ratios I use for cart making. It took me years to perfect, and lots of wasted product and $ down the shitter. I've posted little tid bits here and there. I dont mind helping people, but I cant give out my secrets to what I found works in my setup.
