I have found it works (for me) to just add extra cal-mag on feedings, then nothing on the watering's in between.

I use my nutes (FF brand) at 50-75%, but the calmag always at 100%, and from about week 4 of veg until I start starving her at the end I use an extra 3-5ml/gallon.
i dont use any cal mag. i use tap water because our tap water here is pretty clean you can easily drink it. to me tap water tastes better then the shit i buy at the store with the added iron and stuff in it. if i don't use tap water i use rain water. we never run out of it. i been debating on using cal mag just as a precaution but my plants so far don't show any signs of cal/mag deficencies. the closest i got to it were on my current flowering plants that i induced nitrogen toxicity to which im pretty sure led to nutrient lockout.

i've asked others if i should add it but they all recommended that i don't unless im using RO water thus why i advised the same. by all means am i no pro just my 2cents.

Using tap is fine, as long as there's not too much chlorine/chloramine etc. Some places you can smell it right out of the tap. From caring for pools I know that the 'free chlorine' will mostly evaporate, but some cannot.

Some (like me) just like to be in control of every aspect. If I start with 0ppm, I know exactly what I put in it. It is more work, but it makes me feel better ;)

I did see on one Fox Farms feeding schedule where they recommended cal-mag during a portion of the grow (just before flip to about midway through flower) regardless of water source.

yea i mean closest thing i have to an RO system is a 4 stage RODI system with a TDS meter reading 0.01 i use it for my salt water aquarium though. only if i seen major issues with plant growth would i possibly swap to RO water but for now i run with what i got invest more into my equipment like grow lights and nutrients, etc.. then work on the smaller stuff as i learn. we got i think about 6-10 55gal barrels with rain water so we never run out of that shit plus unlike tap water i don't need to air it out for 24hours to remove the chlorine i just use tap water if im super lazy to walk 20 steps outside. i live near the freeway though so outside my house is super busy all day long people watching me from their cars sitting in traffic looking at me like "wtf is this guy doing?" lol

For what it's worth, I got a 50 gallon/day RO filter set up for $70. Supposed to last a year, but I don't use it for anything but flowers.

yea my rodi was cheap think it's 55gals/pd was $100 something 4 stages though + tds meter which we don't use it just measures outgoing ppm's which is mandatory for salt water aquariums to hit 0. my grandpa and dad gets pissy when i use it though cause of how much waste water it puts out. you can use the waste water to run on outdoor plants but personally i wouldn't.

i can run a lot of better equipment but due to living arrangements and cost of living in my state gotta keep growing as simple as i can and make the best of it. literally trying to get out the aquarium hobby though that one is a huge investment compared to growing.
