How long will plants stretch in flower

AE7DB127-5376-48AF-A0A1-D4F37C51FDB7.jpeg Hey I have my 4 girls in flower. 3 citrus sap and 1 GG4. They have been in flower for 5 days. Just curious how long they will actually stretch out and grow bigger? I’ll post a pic. I actually had to bend the gg4 to try to keep my canopy decently even

This might be a good thread to ask.

I'm not familiar with forum grower protocol, but it would seem as though training/pruning during the stretch, even when it's excessive or troublesome, is discouraged. Maybe it's just the few posts I've seen and not a set opinion.

Is there a reason?

Training such as LST is fine. Supercropping can be debatable; sometimes you do what you gotta do. It's said that defoliating decreases yield, but bottom nugs are bigger for the traded energy.
Gotta experiment

Most stretching is gonna happen during the first 2-3 weeks after you switch the lights to 12/12. If your plants aren't getting as much light as they want, they may stretch more trying to reach for it.

This first couple of weeks after you switch your lights is the time the plant is transitioning from veg growth to flower production. Once you start seeing flowers form, then the flowering period has begun and the stretching will start to slow or stop typically.

There are lots of people that train during the stretch, including most people that grow in a scrog. I do minor pruning and training all throughout growth. I don't like ever chopping everything off the plant it seems counterproductive to me and very stressful. But I will take a leaf off here or there, or a small branch off the bottom here or there to allow better airflow and more light into the canopy to let the whole plant fill out better. This last round of clones got a little big on me, so I pinched all the tops when I put them under 12/12 light, and they only stretched about 2-3 inches total.

As you learn about training and plant growth you will find what works for you. There aren't a lot of totally right or totally wrong ways to do this all, and some of it just comes down to what people find entertaining as they are growing I think.

I've been pruning and bending them for years in the stretch. Spend all that time tailoring then in veg to have the stretch fuck that up... No thanks lol.

I defoliate, snip fan tips off in veg, break up root balls lol. Didn't know any of that was taboo til I got on forums.

I was just wondering if there were any reasons not to, but I suspect it's like the defoliation/flushing subjects. Also, didn't know flushing was a thing lol.

Yea I know how it all works, just seems like some subjects on forums are frowned upon in a general concensus sort of way. Like a standard of sorts, if that makes sense.

Figured I'd ask.

The subject that is frowned apon, and causes the debates is "defoliation". That is not the same as pruning and training. Defoliation by definition means removing all the leaves like some guys do. If it works for them fine, but that is the debated "technique". Not so much LST or basic pruning(though I realize some don't even do that).

I've seen folks saying you can't train plants in flower and thing of the like, can't dry bud out before cure, etc.

I don't care much for the word cult, but kind of similar. Here and on another forum. Just getting a feel for it because up until I got on forums, I was on my own.

I learned the basics from a guy for cultivating weed, but like most, I take what I like and find new ways.

I always recommend DE for pests... Nobody knows what it is seems like. I cut fan tips off in veg... Get some angry posts back when I mention it.

Not holding anything against anybody, that's what I love about growing, everyone does it differently. Just saying, seems like unspoken standards from where I'm sitting lol.

Man I train all my plants from week 2 until 2 weeks to harvest. I got that way growing autoflowers where they sometimes start flowering at day 15 and stretch to 3 times the size they were. Now that I'm running photos, I've been putting that LST to work along with HST like topping, tying down and pruning. I like shaping the canopy the way I need it as I only have a small growspace. Dude, do what works for you. If you're happy ,don't worry what others say. I don't follow the strict code some live by and maybe they might do a little better at harvest. But, I'm happy my way. I just grow for me and my wife and I don't care to take the time to do it harder. I do me happily. Do you! Fk what some people say. Most folks on here are actually trying to help.
