Taking clones

Starting to dive into the clone taking game, had a few questions i was hoping you fine growers could help me with.

I will be using rapid rooters to drop clones in.

Whats a decent success rate? how many clones should i take if im wanting 10 to root?
I have a cloning gel i plan to use
Do i soak the RR in the 1/4 nute solution prior to adding the clone?

Heres what ive gathered so far .... ( thanks @Rattlehead121 )

Cut clones on 45
drop in glass of water
scrape stem
dip in gel
clip leaves and remove any unwanted growth
drop clone in soaked 1/4 nute rapid rooter
place in dome with high RH

Heres where i have a few more questions.

Do clones require constant watering as a normal plant? or only once they begin rooting?
How long are they left under the dome?

Is there anything im missing? if anyone got any tips or tricks they like to use, please throw them my way, this is all new to me, so id like to increase my chances of success lol

Add Inkbird temperature controller, propagation mat set at 80° no nutrients and I prefer root riots better than rapid rooters but either will work and I prefer powdered rooting hormone but I do use clonex I have a tray I dipped in clonex going now aside from that sounds like you got everything going just takes time, don't let the rapid rooters dry out. Per instructions on the bag let them sit in a quarter inch of water at all times good luck

You don’t need to water clones every day. Just need to keep humidity high and the soil moist. Take the dome off for a few minutes a day after 3-4 days to allow for some fresh air.

Hi Diggs,
I'm with Beachwalker on no nutes...with one caveat. When I reach maybe 5 days...if medium is dry and needs watering, I'll throw some really light nutes like 1/8 just to tempt them.

Keep them in a dome till they can keep looking good without it. In the early days I'll take the dome off, get some air exchange, mist the inside of dome and back on.

Usually within 4 or 5 days mine can maintain without dome. I had one that had been out of dome wilt on me. Needed water and it got neglected. Back into dome for a couple days and it was OK. Keep it flexible and use common sense. Sounds like you're off to a good start.

Hi Diggs,
Yes just water. My Grandma used to do cuttings in just a glass of water. Ph it if you want..

A recent tip I picked up here. Those horti heat mats can be too hot. Probably why Beachwalker suggested a controller. I just take a few chop sticks and place them under the tray to keep a small distance there. Better for the plant and the cube doesn't dry out so fast. Maybe your mat won't need that...but mine does.

Just get a controller as this way your heating pad wont run hot all the time just when sensor tells it too

Awesome guys, thanks for the help as usual

I'll report back once I'm done, should happen within next couple weeks.

@Pa-Nature our local store sells the clonex spray, I actually had a bottle in my hand but the dude who worked there told me I needed this rootech gel more

Do you spray your mothers with it a week before? What about if taking the clones from a flowering plant? Still use it?

Get a clone king
then take cuts off a healthy mother
add tap water
cuts in puks
come back in 10 days
easy, no hassle, close to 100%

Thanks bro, always there to help!

Ok I'll pop by and grab a bottle next time I'm in the area. This bunch of clones are coming off plants in flower, they will be in week 2-3 from flip by time I take them.

No problem up to two weeks I've taken them at 3 but in my opinion they are awfully slow after two weeks and I suspect the success rate might be lower

Here's a tip: Take Cuts now put them in a glass of water and put them in the fridge, they'll hold perfect for a week+ until you get around to getting your supplies together, you can take extra this way too, as a back up
