China today announced retaliatory measures against Trumps newest round of tariff increases, actually ignoring Trumps Tweet (can u believe?) not to do it.
Who the fuck does he think he is dealing with?
China is 3000 years old, and has withstood more invasions and attempted domination by foreign influences than any other country in the world, and Trump thinks they will bow to his demands?
Lo fucking L.
I spent a lot of time with Chinese friends in NYC in the 80"s while I was studying Shaolin, and let me tell you this.
They will be more than happy to eat only rice and fish balls to prove their point, and that point is that they are not ever, ever going to even consider bowing to Trump (that's the way they look at it), or any other "Imperialist" ever again.
Pride is EVERYTHING to the Chinese, they would rather die than "lose face" (ask the Japanese)
He started a war with the wrong people this time, he should have stuck with Iran.

Idiot laughing. China is in everything using the long game plan. The USA? At the whim of a demented draft dodging bankrupt fool. Today that is? Tomorrow? Who knows? When Trump took office one of his immediate concerns (as he was counseled on regular nightly installments of Hannity and reinforced by mornings with “Fox and Friends”) was the manmade islands in the South China Sea. He called on our allies at the time to back us up. Australia’s PM informed Trumpy that when pushing China do not ask Australia for help because it was not coming. China pretty much helped Australia avoid the economic downturn most of the rest of the world suffered. Money talks and bullshit walks. In the long run China will weather this far better than we will.

It's not about China, it's about the racism and ignorance of Trump's base.

Dan DiMicco is one of his boosters. This "former adviser" was on NPR and said: "Here is what I'm going to say to all Americans. We are in an existential battle with China, they have been waging a trade war with us for 20 plus years, they have destroyed millions and millions of jobs, tens of millions of people have been negatively impacted, our social costs have gone through the roof, also you can get cheaper underwear. Enough's enough its time to stand up to China, thank you Mr Trump." He also justified the current increase to 25% tariff because "it's all a lie. Prices haven't gone up due to the 10% tariff and won't with the new increases".

https://www.npr.org/2019/05/11/722389769/former-trump-adviser-dan-dimicco-on-china-tariffs

Right after his interview was over, NPR has one of it's staff economic experts on who says that its true that the industry DIMICCO REPRESENTS -- the steel industry -- hasn't been affected, most other industries have and prices HAVE gone up in those. Not only that, but DiMicco was claiming a 10% tariff didn't have an effect and so a 25% tariff won't either. 10% didn't hurt therefore 25% won't either. Ignoring the fact that the 10% tariff did affect retailers, still, that kind of logic is that?

DiMicco simply lied with conviction. He blamed all of US's industry's woes on China as if the US could not have done differently. Those sneaky Chinese and all of that. As you say, there is no way China can negotiate with Trump whose primitive zero sum negotiating style is to have one side a loser and the other (him) a winner. Come to think of it, I can't think of one time his negotiating style worked with sovereign nations. . NK, Iran, Europe, Mexico, Canada and so forth. Trump's style of causing other people to publicly lose face is a big no-no in any negotiation, much less with China.

An economist last week said that Americans haven’t really felt the full impact of even the lower tariffs for a variety of reasons including many businesses eating most or all of them to avoid losing customers while hoping for a quick end to this. He said it’s impossible to do that at 25%. And he pointed out it was the end buyer who ultimately pays the tariffs.

Their used to being impoverished and abused, whereas the cunts in this country if their microwave fails they have a meltdown.
You can not go toe to toe with a Chinese peasant, they never had anything much to begin with, and if Trump thinks he can make them subservient, well, he's an idiot (SURPRISE!!!! he is one)

That talking head said "no effect". He effin lied. You are right, the American consumer might not but companies who are "eating the costs" are being affected by reduced profits. This ripples down into lower wages, lower jobs growth, etc. As you say, consumers haven't felt it yet but will and the 25% will ripple into the economy one way of another. However one cuts it, this Tariff is a tax on the US, not China.

China's Shanghai index was down 1%, Hangsen index was up. US SP500 index down almost 3%. The smart money is calling this a loser for the US.

I know nobody likes to hear good things that Hillary said but here goes. She advocated making the US more competitive by investing in education and in the new economy rather than trade wars with other countries. Made sense to me.

Yeah, Trump's stupid pissing match is starting to affect us too, you're right.

I absolutely agree, Australia definitely should be closer to China. Especially considering all the Chinese Australians there are here.

Unfortunately, the Liberals here are far too behind with the times, and still bare allegiance to America because of saving our arses in WW2.

Hope we have a new Prime Minister after this weekend, otherwise we may be headed in a really bad direction.
$36 billion of products directly affected here is just the tip of the iceberg.

We get everything from China, literally everything lol.

And it's day 1
Just wait until China's response is felt.
It's mostly going to effect only Trump supporters.

The same stupid farmers that still have their soybean crops from last year in storage unable to sell them are getting hit yet again.

Most wont be able to even plant a crop this year at all, and even if they do they'll probably not be able to sell it.

But they'll blame Obama as usual as the banks foreclose on them.

And then they'll vote for Trump again.
