CMH vs QB in a cooler environment: advice requested

I'd say with consistent 55F night temps there aren't many strains that won't show nutrient issues with stunted growth and over all unhealthy plants.

Yes, I'm liking this plan. Thanks so much for your specifics regarding temp increases and all your suggestions. I'm going to test the temp during the day and cross my fingers it's warmer, and like you suggested, I could run lights over night... So helpful, thank you!!
 
I just went down to the basement and the temp is 61F, hottest part of the day. Getting dismayed at the challenge of growing down there. Also, the air doesn't move down there, and the air in the house is partly filtered, partly fresh. In the bedroom it's a comfy 71F.

So, really, I have to wrap my head around stealthing it in the house. Not major stealthing, my wife is cool, its just from the occasional in-law visits... so if I tuck it in my bedroom I'll be fine. I just have to accept that I'm going to have to downsize my plan a bit or study the art of small plant growing.

Really I should go for a 2x2x4 but that sounds extremely small. I'm trying to figure out how to conceal a 4x2x5, which should be much more flexible but still quite stealthy.

Also, in the warmer indoor environment, I wonder if the CMH would now be boardering on too hot, in which case a quantum board or COB would be best. It seems to me that the QBs or COBs would take up less room and allow more space for plant growth. So, if I move inside and I have to downsize the tent a bit, that might be compensated by the option to use more compact lights and save space that way. Does that make sense?

Jesus Christ, it's just a plant people! Turning your life upside down for it should not be necessary.

Make a box with foam board in the basement. This box should be a full six sides, to fully insulate from cold walls and floor. Plumb a small hole in the side at the bottom so it can suck in CO2 from floor level and another for exhaust at the top. The holes should be big enough to fit a small duct fan, try 4" diameter first.

With cold air, you'll want to push air in at the bottom so it warms up a bit. Use a small fan since you don't need a lot of turnover. Run the fan on constantly, so it cools during lights on and keeps a lid on RH overnight.

That fan is different than circulation inside the box; use an oscillating fan to keep things mixed up inside. That fan should blow across the light fixtures to circulate the heat around the space inside the box.

Your wife will appreciate my advice lol
 
ttystikk good advice, I definitely prioritize keeping my wife happy. I'll check out the foam box idea right now, I'd love to shave some $$ off the build too. Plus I can see how the foam would do a better job than a tent at insulating the box. Great idea thanks so much, for real!!

I'm planning on a very mild ventilation, due to the cool environment. But I really want to scrub any smell due to my wife's parents frequent visits. So I'm thinking I have to have a carbon filter and a small 4" fan (likely AC Infinity for low sound and efficiency), maybe even at a reduced speed.

So, hopefully, I can squeeze a CMH into a 2x4, vent gently, and still maintain a solid 15 degree temp increase. I'm not convinced that even the CMH will heat the tent enough, but I'm hoping to hear from someone that this plan could work! :-?:leaf:

I run 2 by 4 ft tents in the high desert where night time temps get below 30 degrees. I have always used 8 bulb T5 HO fixtures and they keep the tents warm when indoor temps drop below 60. with the horticultural bulbs available I can get any SPD I want and more uniform light distribution than with an HID

Exterior cosmetics. I line the inside with Orca film. Veg newly built...still not finished. Lol
Unfortunately the 1 1/2" thick does not completely block bright light.
