Considering the switch!?

Hey guys, I'm currently planning and plotting my next set up, im a hydro grower (DWC to be exact)
I usually use 600w MH/HPS lights but have been considering switching to LED, i don't know anything about them, would a 2000w LED light be ok over 2 plants?

Can anyone give me a bit of information from their personal experience using them? I.e yields, pros, cons?
Yes there is info online but id like to know people's actual opinions instead of reading the sales pitch online lol!

Any help/info is appreciated

If it was a true 2000W, it would be to much light, with that said, its probably 250 watts at the wall.

WALL watts is what is important.

What size grow area you working with? What is your budget? Then we can go from there.

Ya godda watch out for the exaggerated watt's claims like the other post said it's what the light is pulling from the plug that counts.. I've been running a HLG 550 V2 3000k for a few runs in flower I like it. It runs a lot cooler, nugs are nice and dense.

For veg I'm using 2 - 280 V2's 3500k and 4000k they do a awesome job..

600 watts of HID = one hot light source for the garden & you might use a light rail light mover to improve canopy coverage. Hot so must be high above canopy. No helpful DIY HID forums for you to enjoy.

600 watts of LED = four (or more!) large area light emitting sources for better coverage of garden canopy. Cooler than HID so can be closer to canopy. You can DIY & proudly say "look at what I made."

I'm not sure mate i think it was called the bestva/bastva or something like that?
So not 100% sure on the wall watts

It's just a single tent ill be using 2x20L dwc buckets

Budget i don't really have 1 either tbh ill spend whatever I need to get results

Ok now i am lost haha, in short terms i basically want to know are the LED'S better then the hps/mh, as i said im used to using 600watt hps and get about 6/7 oz per plant based on 4 plants and 2 lights

ok, what size is the tent, lol. Im asking, because it makes a difference.

another thing, u used a 600W hps, and only got around 200 grams, in DWC at that, which is very poor bro, just being honest.

AND, going to LED isnt going to make YOU a better grower, because there are learning curves that LED growers must know.

that light is 390 watts, but because it uses old generation mono diodes, which make more heat then light, your only getting 200ish worth of watts. Crap light.

If your handy, You can make a nice light. If your not, then you have to pay upwards 50% more for a prebuilt light.

if you want plug and grow, You can go the Mars TS1000 route, to learn to grow. They work, and they are a cheap entry level light source. You can get 2 for $300 from the zon, and would kick ass in a 4x4 tent.

Cheap LEDs are pretty shit and not really worth the swap from HPS in my opinion.
Anything that's called X watt grow light that isn't that wattage is something to avoid.

Look at the small print, it will say the actual power draw somewhere in the add, it may also say what area it covers in flower but some will say what area it will light up at X height, which is useless info. My 18w cfl in my living room lights up my whole room but I wouldn't try and grow plants under it.

Yes there are some great LEDs. Companies like HLG, timber, bcblondes, PLC, chilLED. atrium, even hortibloom.
All will perform great but you wont find them at the price tag of shit lights like bestva, mars, viparspectra or any other cheap amazon light.

Then there is the DIY option, building your own is pretty simple these days, should cost you about 0.5-1.5 dollars per watt so its still not cheap. But its fun and its satisfying.

End of the day you can shave off some of your heat and power consumption or you can run equal watts to the HPS and increase yield. It depends on what and why you want to do.

Had a lot of issues with heat etc so that determined the shit results, the tent i believe is 60x60x120

Thanks for the advice mate, think ill end up staying with the hps tbh lol or even mixing them??

FWIW I grew under 600s for a long time. I do better now under 240W of COBs and strips than I ever did under a single 600W HPS.
You think maybe because you learned to grow was the difference? and what is considered better? How many grows and what was you yield with the HPS?
