We've gone close enough to do it already @ the TauTona mine in South Africa @ 2.4 mi. into the crust:It's well within our capabilities. It's a small, slow trickle of heat from the mantle, or it would have blown a long time ago.
The mine is so deep that temperatures in the mine can rise to life-threatening levels. Air-conditioning equipment is used to cool the mine from 55 °C (131 °F) down to a more tolerable 28 °C (82 °F). The rock face temperature reaches 60 °C (140 °F).
Silly to use air conditioning when you could use heat exchangers to harvest the heat for "free" power and cool the mines at the same time.
