My First Grow Room - Seed to Bud

Sorry about the shitty pics. I've got a cold and forgot to use the macro setting on my camera.

Bigger plant: 19th day since ground-break under floros.

Under cfls (3rd day under super-lights): 15th day since ground-break.

Interesting that the growth profile of the CFL plant has changed - it seems to be staying low and bushy reaching down and to the side instead of up - because thats where the 6400 lights are.

I haven't watered in days. I"m waiting for the slightest of droopiness of leaves or dry promix but everything seems ok. Maybe tomorrow I'll soak the pots through with a 1/4 nute solution.
Looking good man. And that is interesting about the 6400lights and stature of plant.

big water today.

2 larger plants: 1/2 nutes
4 smaller plants: just PH'ed water

checkout these beauties!

In case you are wondering the pink lites are philips agro fluorescents with colour spectrum spikes in the red and blue. the other fluors are daylight (6400k)

bonus shot of me making a pellet of hash using the isopropyl alcohol evaporation method.

Crazy. Today I checked on my Biggy and low and behold what did i see?

At this point I'll let you check the first thumbnail below so you can visually feel some of the astonishment I did this morning.

Go ahead, look, I'll wait...

Yes, unbelieveably it looks like a new seedling. But from where? 3 weeks ago when Biggy sprouted and his partner in the next plastic cup didn't (after 4 or 5 days) I just gave up. I must have shoveled the uncracked seed and soil into Biggys pot - it is the only way i can account for it. Anyhow, 3 weeks later the little seedling decides to make an appearance! But why now? My guess is that the last thorough soaking I did a couple days ago with half nutes may have had something to do with it.

That's the good news. The bad news is that in scooping it out of Biggys pot I accidentally clipped one of Biggys roots. My guess is that one of the leaves or shoots will suffer and it will lose its almost perfect symmetry - notable on the 4th thumbnail as well as the newbie seedling at 3'oclock in the soil. Or maybe a single root just contributes a small percentage to the growth of the overall plant instead of a single locus? I know not.

Giddy with the new developments and overall progress looks great. Not the fastest growing plants but they look healthy to my eyes.

LMFAO.. The way you set that up in your words... I was like.. "oh.. ok, ill go look" and then the "EXCUSE ME???" -- perfect... totally funny.

That is nuts... that seed was a sleeper just hanging out. I guess that's why none of us should never say never.
I did a non-serious grow earlier this year and one of my plants grew and next to it was like, a little slow growing mutant plant. I only had 2 seeds and there were 2 plants and a mutant.. haha. Not sure what ever happened to it since I gave the plants away.

Biggy is looking bomb. I hope the root incident doesn't harm it's symmetry. Still looking great!

I guess that little guy wanted to be different, didn't want to come out n play with the rest of them.

Shouldn't be a problem, not anything to worry about.

. . . . isn't growing fun hehehe.

Thought I would check out your journal and everything looks very professional. Better than my setup anyways ;-)

. . . . I read another journal where someone used inexpensive wrapping paper instead of mylar, good idea drybiedog. Also regarding the volume of dirt going down after you watered a couple times. This happens to me about 50% of the plants I pot. I just through some more dirt on the top to bring the level of dirt to where I want it. The plant's root system adjusts no problem.

good growing to you drybiedog, I'll be stopping in occasionally to see how it goes.

have a good day

Hi all. The best part of getting busy with life and just making occasional checks on your babies instead of obsessive hourly visits is that when you finally take stock of your garden you realize that your little ones are growing up. Where does the time go? They are growing up so fast! Spend every minute you can with them when they are young because before you know it they will be all grow up and harvested.

Things are accelerating and it seems that the plant (kinky) getting the 5 CFL treatment is starting to benefit wildly.

Biggy is all over the fluorescents, constantly touching them and it doesn't seem to bother the leaves.

The late-blooming new seedling is an incredibly slow grower with only the first set of leaves outgrowing the cotyledon only after a week since breaking ground.

Biggy and Kinky are on full nutes. The others are on a diet of half-strength.

Kinky's leaves seem to curl from the sides up. Not sure why or if it is something to be concerned about. Strange, I've search the forums here for a long time and couldn't find a similar case. anyone?

p.s. greeting yellowsnakes.

p.p.s. and yes, pm, kief is awesome.

p.p.p.s. curb, your journal imho is the best one going right now - following your trials and tribs. nice!

Hey brother, #3 was having it's leaves fold up the long ways. Yours are kind of curling, whereas #3's were actually "folding" in half.
I did some research and found out it could be due to heat. I thought that was weird because my climate didn't change at all. I think I ended up watering them (this was weeks ago) and spritzing water all around the box and it dropped the temps, and the folding stopped.

Im not saying for sure it's a heat issue, but that's my tale. Take it for whatever it's worth. :)

Your plants are looking beautiful.

Not much to report really. Things are moving along nicely. The smell is kind of getting to be a problem but I figure I have another week to procrastinate. I'm waiting to hear curbs report to see if i should bite his styles.

Stipules are visible on biggie and i'm wondering when i'll see preflowers. Biggie and kinky are on full nutes and are growing nicely. You can see that kinky with her 5 dedicated cfls is growing bushier with sturdier leaves.

The others, except smally will probably go 3/4 nute on their next feed which is whenever i lift their pot and it is incredibly light.

I haven't decided what to do about flowering. but here is my thinking - advice is welcomed and wanted.

I take 3 clones from each plant. I then take the plants and put them in the flower room under a mh for 18/6 for a week to sort out room temps since overheating may be a problem. In that time I'll let the clones grow under the fluorescents. Then I'll go 12/12 under hps with the big plants and wait 10 days to sex. I'll chuck the males on the street as well as their respective clones. Assuming 3 of the 6 are female, I'll have 3 plants to flower and 9 clones to veg (actually 6 clones is probably closer since I'll lose some clones along the way). I will then veg the clones while the 6 flower and then flower the clones - but not before cutting more clones to plant outside in the spring. Well? makes sense?

enjoy the pics. see the difference between fluros and cfls. learn their names, there will be a test next week.

looking beautiful and very green!

Sorry I havent tested the filter yet because I dont really have a smell problem yet. My girl says she can "smell pine and plants" but I dont feel its necessary to try the filter quite yet. Once I am in flower I am sure I will use it. As soon as I get the cooltube I will drop into flower. Should be here any day now!

What font did you use for labeling your images?

bandit, ya get your ass to the deep (home depot). get daylight cfls and some cheap plastic screw-in fixtures and wire them to a plug (one wire on black, the other on white and you are good to go). basically you should just smoke a joint and cruise the aisles because it is a really fun thing to do anyway.

don't use toilet paper - no air. the seed needs moisture and air so paper towel works best - and the heat of a tv or monitor.

curb, font: university, i like it too.

leaving my babies for the weekend!

1. Print out the shopping list below.
2. Hand it to someone in Home Depot while you relax and wait.
3. Using your noggin, make the set up.
4. Buy some paper towel and start the germinating process and wait.
