Current and former Tesla employees working in the company's open-air "tent" factory say they were pressured to take shortcuts to hit aggressive Model 3 production goals, including making fast fixes to plastic housings with electrical tape, working through harsh conditions and skipping previously required vehicle tests.

Workers say they took other short cuts to hit aggressive new production targets, too.

Five people who work or worked in the tent in 2019 said they would frequently pass cars down the line that they knew were missing a few bolts, nuts or lugs, all in the name of saving time.

In the tent, most workers have just a couple of minutes to complete a process. If a small item was missing, or a bolt was not torqued in perfectly, they would rather keep cars moving than stop the line and be seen as a bottleneck to production, they said.

In particular, these people said, aeroshields are often missing a middle bolt, and loose connections in body controllers are a common issue.

For example, this photo shows the power supply for a distribution block in the front right vehicle controller in a Model 3. A nut is missing that should be there to secure electrical connections.

One Electric Vehicle Is Outselling All The Others Combined

InsideEVs.com says 106,864 full-electric vehicles were sold or leased in the U.S. so far this year, which is a considerable increase over the same period during 2018 when 63,752 battery-driven cars were delivered to customers. Much of this jump has to do with the success of the Tesla Model 3, which on its own accounts for 63 percent of all 2019 full-EV sales.

And they still lose money and build shitty taped together cars doing it.

Awesome!
there is a big difference between losing money and not showing a profit. Tesla re-invests is profits into expanding production infrastructure. Teslas future is bright...

Wrong.

You have to actually MAKE a profit to REINVEST it.

Tesla has never made a profit. They just keep taking out more loans and floating more stock. That's why they are carrying 9 BILLION DOLLARS OF DEBT.

they won't show a profit if the money is re-invested. Tesla has only been selling cars for 11 years starting from scratch and it takes a lot to compete with century old car companies, but Tesla is kicking all their asses while just getting started...growing pains

You have to make a profit to reinvest it. Tesla doesn't. They've never made a yearly profit. Ever.

If what you said was true, poor Elon wouldn't have just thrown a fit 6 weeks ago and begged for money and then said they could be belly up broke in 10 months.

And Tesla is 16 years old. Stop lying. I know that's hard for you, but try.

“This is a lot of money, but actually only gives us about 10 months at the Q1 burn rate to achieve breakeven!” - Elon Musk in tears May 17, 2019

"After 10 years in the market, Tesla ranked as the world's best selling plug-inpassenger car manufacturer in 2018, both as a brand and by automotive group, with 245,240 units delivered and a market share of 12% of the plug-in segment sales.[20][21][22] Tesla vehicle sales in the U.S. increased by 280% from 48,000 in 2017 to 182,400 in 2018,[23] and globally were up by 138% from 2017.[24]"....

This is typical of a lot of manufacturing in many fields.A team assembles something and quality control inspectors come behind And put these on a punch list to fix.Looking at the picture the plug above it is left unplugged, most likely to highlite the missing nut & washer. Most companys wouldn't want to stop production over a simple nut & washer something that is a quick fix when the parts arrive.
