Renewable Energy + Battery Storage = Fossil Fuels Obsolete, Even Natural Gas

I'd have to say that the cataract surgery was the best thing to happen to me. I had the doctors replace the lens, with a plastic lens that was perfectly made for my eyeball size. They told me that my eyeballs were the longest they had ever measured. That's why my nearsighted vision was 20/950.

Now my eyesight is 20/25 and I don't need any correction!

Ain't life grand.

Broke steering cables, bent shafts and things but never had a motor failure. Lots of local and mid level tournaments for 30 years. Lots and lots of hours.
Honestly the autopilot on my fishing boat is probably 8 years old and is great but the tiller enduro is replaced every two years as it leaks into the motor :(. I tend to fish a lot too, I was a guide on Lake Ontario for 15 years :).

Tesla just announced a giant new battery
https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-announces-megapack-giant-new-battery-product-2019-7
  • Tesla on Monday announced its largest battery product.
  • Called Megapack, it's designed to simplify the installation process for large energy-storage projects.
  • A system of Megapacks is more cost-effective and can be installed faster than a fossil-fuel power plant, Tesla says, and the Megapacks can store energy generated by wind turbines or solar panels.
  • Tesla had previously used its industrial-size Powerpack batteries for large-scale projects, but says the Megapack has 60% more energy density.

Tesla stock (TSLA) gets vote of support from German banking giant Commerzbank

Tesla stock (NASDAQ:TSLA) has received a notable vote of confidence from a massive financial conglomerate, with German banking giant Commerzbank AG disclosing that it has doubled down on its stake in the electric car maker in Q2 2019.

During the second quarter, which saw Tesla deliver a record number of vehicles but fall short of Wall Street’s earnings estimates, the German firm scooped up 350,258 Tesla shares, nearly doubling its holdings to a total of 772,972 shares. The financial firm’s stock purchase appears to be part of a series of investments that would stand to benefit as automation and digitization — technologies that Tesla is actively involved in — spread through the market, according to a Barron’sreport.

I've had electric vehicles, battery technology in my mind since 1972 and now they are finally coming to fruition before I die.

Tesla's are very popular in Petaluma, CA.

Meanwhile, Porsche has announced that preorders for their upcoming 4 door electric sports sedan are nearing 30,000 units.

Maybe they should concentrate on getting their existing lines of cars out the door instead of hyping yet more concept vehicles? Just a thought.

They're popular in my smaller but affluent city as well.

As I've said many times before, including in this very thread, I want to see Tesla succeed. I don't see their antics of late being helpful in reaching that goal.

Batteries are getting incrementally better and the potential for revolutionary designs is stronger than ever; recently, there was news about flouride ion battery technology; they have been able to make one work at room temperature instead of 450F, opening the door for a cheaper battery with up to ten times the storage capacity of lithium ion.

God, I love Porsches! I'm just not that type of driving guy. I hate driving. But, they are beautiful machines.

Sales of Model S and Model X vehicles down precipitously- in California, the firm's 'home turf';

https://wolfstreet.com/2019/07/23/californians-sour-on-tesla-model-s-and-model-x-registrations-plunge/

It's looking like the company's own Model 3 and upcoming Model Y are cannibalizing sales from the high margin flagship lineup, raising yet another bump in the road to profitability.
Tesla realizes that the biggest market for electric cars are not in the Model S or X segment but rather in the Model 3 & Model y. The S & X were always "demonstration" models to show what e-cars can do. There biggest market is in the 3&Y..

I ride a large sports bike to work so looking forward to an electric equivalent, it’s the massive torque the e motors can deliver that many bikers will appreciate, doesn’t matter what it sounds like, imo, because you can’t hear the engine noise above wind noise.
We’ve just had a record breaking summer temp in uk, some idiots were celebrating like we’ve won a gold medal for being hot, others pointed out that this climate emergency is not a fucking competition.

Tesla’s margins are ‘more solid than they appear,’ this analyst says
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/teslas-margins-are-more-solid-than-they-appear-this-analyst-says-2019-07-30
Tesla Inc. stands to save millions from its cost-cutting efforts earlier in the year, and margins are “more solid than they appear,” analysts at Macquarie Research said in a note Tuesday.
Tesla’s second-quarter gross margins were hit by one-off items that are past the company and margins will improve in the second half, they said.

Moreover, “underlying gross margins more solid than they appear,” the analysts said, estimating that Model 3 second-quarter gross margins, around 18% to 19%, were “likely down only marginally” despite a $7,000 fall in the sedan’s average selling price, “attesting to the scale benefits Tesla can achieve.”

I've had 1..meh
A 911? My best friends big brother had a Porshe C, that got me going. My dad was an auto mechanic and got free tickets to the L.A. auto show every year and I'd go with him to see what was new. He wasn't a teacher, though. He'd say, "give me your car and I'll get it running". That's what he did in the Marines, keeping landing craft and anything else running, while standing in waist deep water, without much cover. He had PTSD long before the name was applied. I still remember the nightmares he had. I'm lucky to be here. He came home at 120 lbs. from malaria. Went in at 180 lbs. and a boxer. Well, thanks for listening. I went off topic.

Yes 86' 911....it was my wifes car. left my wife stranded on the road twice at night, in the days before cell phones and she had to walk about a mile each time to call me. She refused to drive it after that and I didn't even bring it home from the shop the second time....traded it in on an F250 4x4 and gave her my Mercedes...
