First time grow. Thought I'd post up to see how I am going.

What: Incredible Bulk
OP: 3mtr x 3mtr room with dedicated 6ft x 4ft flower room

Started the grow room build early this year. Converted a bedroom to a dedicated grow room. Anything worth doing is worth doing properly.

Room pics:

Starting with metal frame work.

Day 30 they were transplanted into 50ltr pots. I performed HST and then LST to them.

I was not planning to scrog on my first try but it happened.

At this point I read about RF stuff. I only believe whats in front of me.

That's my lights starting. I got this from front of house. I have used this to pick up a few ops in my local area bu drivin around with lappy.

Around day 40 of Veg they started to hit the net nicely. The net is 3ft wide and 6ft long. Next run I'll split the net into two if I do scrog again.
20190621_231213.jpg
Now it was a waiting game for the girls tp fill.

This is good right?
IMG_20190714_193325.jpg
Something werid happened and the root mass moved upwards...
IMG_20190723_075131_DRO.jpg
I thought it could have been my watering schedule. 15 secs every 2 hours. I changed to 45 secs every 6 hours...

This isn't a perfect grow, lot's learned and even more to come. I didn't fill the net fully. I ended up with some uneven heights. I have the next run comin up in veg, critical mass. Hopefully will be better. 1lb per plant is the goal....

Very nice 1st grow aussiebrat! Looks like you did your homework before spending the cash!
Sorry just skimmed through your grow, so if I missed something, my apologies.

I’ve grown incredible bulk a few times, a few years back. Good strain overall in terms of yield, quality and fairly forgiving.
I’ve grown plants just over a pound under 600w hid. I grow dwc. And had to veg for roughly 2 months to achieve a plant big enough to yield over a pound!
But very similar style to yours.
Won’t take you long to get there I don’t think. Just needs a long time in veg. But with 4 lights, 1 under each plant in flower you can have a perpetual grow, each plant 2 weeks apart in age, and harvest a pound every 2 weeks!
I found Positive to this is low plant count.
Negative to this is not the most cost effective way as you need to draw more power in veg as opposed to say sog.
And also if you have issues with 1 plant then you’ve lost quarter of your crop!
Ive found running 4 to 5 plants per light and vegging for just under 4 weeks to be what works for me.

And when you say, flower room is sealed, do you mean enclosed? Or air tight?
Just that if it’s air tight, you may want to dose some co2 or growth can come to a grinding halt. Or worse :-(

Anyway, good luck man. Looking good!!

I vegged these girls for 60 days. I'm up to day 29 if Flower. I already have my next run under veg. I am going to change from whole room replacement to 1 plant to flower every 4 weeks, I can fit two. I am hoping this will let me play with heavy indicas and heavy sativas in the same room.

Critical Mass, 31 days old

IMG_20190730_022930_DRO.jpg

Critical + 2, from seed, 20 days old.

IMG_20190730_022936_DRO.jpg

In regards to the flower room, I have a light proof passive intake, soon to be active. Other then this intake, the flower room is sealed.

IMG_20190730_022708_DRO.jpg
Both 600watt HPSs have dedicated cooling.
IMG_20190730_022721_DRO.jpg
I also have co2 primed and ready. I am just unsure of what direction I want with it. It's either flower room, or veg at this stage but I'm far from ready yet.

Nice man!
Ohh sorry, missed that part on the 60 days veg.

Makes harvest time a lot less monotonous, not having to harvest a room all at once haha.

Co2 for flower room for sure!

Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t look like you are extracting air from the grow room itself? That’ll be the best way to get fresh air into your grow room until you dose co2. On the opposite side of your passive intake, up high. So you draw the fresh air through your plants 8-)

250mm hyper max silent can fan, matched with 250mmx 750mm carcoal. can recycle the room in 2 mins easy.

Flower room passive intakes come in bottom. two oscillating fans running 24x7. Only issue I have is more growth on plant in front of vents. going to duct one a way from her and to the other plant.

At the half way mark for flowering.

Over the next month I'll gather the required kit for drying and curing. Rough plan is to make drying racks then cure in mason jars.

The buds look to be developing good. Last week I either tucked or cut any fan leaf covering a bud site. There seemed to be mixed opinions if it's good or not. I ended up cutting a lot and was afraid I stunted growth... However this didn't tirn out to be true, growth is amazingly good and they're drinking a lot more. I feed 30 secs every 5 hours now instead of 6 to ensure my daily waste is in the range of 10 - 20 ltrs(10 - 20% run off).

IMG_20190731_084251_DRO.jpg
IMG_20190731_084259_DRO.jpg

I have three bud sites that I don't understand. They look light burnt but they can't be. 2 of the 3 are down low. I'm using the secret sauce from "thecaptin", a mix of GH products including 0-10-10 at 40ml per 80ltrs.

IMG_20190731_084127_DRO.jpg
These are the two low bud sites...
IMG_20190731_084146_DRO.jpg
This one is the highest top. My gut is telling me it's a nutrient problem. I think the rust spots in the pic above is the give away.

I can tell other nutrient issues pretty easy and have a handle on the basics, too much nk, not enough nk or cal.

IMG_20190731_084743_DRO.jpg
My lights are not too close and if anything could be closer.

Any ideas? I would Appreicate it! Not scared of reading and learning myself, a nudge to the right material and I'll learn.

I finally fixed my last nagling environmental issue. I only had passive intakes to flower room. I foolishily put only 2x 150mm intakes via light proof box. Negative pressure was that strong my DTW pipes wouldn't drain out of flower room unles door was open or exhaust off. I have installed a hyper max 150mm fan and on the end of it's ducting a ceramic heating element. Now I am in full control of pressure and heating. Temps solid 22C over night instead of 14 and RH solid 50%.

The graph shows the pressure difference.

Are you sure this is your first grow Aussiebrat? Haha you’re doing good man! I can see you’ve done a lot of research.
You will be giving us pointers soon
Rust spots indicate calcium deficiency.
But not always from a lack of. Ph could be a little too high or simply drifting too high for too long....? Light burn, even when mild can show deficiencies from my experience. Usually starting with what looks like a nitrogen deficiency but at the top of the plant. Sometimes if bad enough you will get magnesium deficiency after (yellowing between veins)
I’ve learnt to be a lot more aggressive with defoliating. Especially with big shadowing indica dominant strains and a thick canopy. And yes they do bounce back with no to minimal shock if plants are healthy.
I think timing when to do this and being methodical when removing leaves (not removing all the leaves off one branch/cola and not removing only upper leaves for example) is the key.
You want as much light penetration through the canopy but not so much that it hits the floor as this would be a waste of light efficiency imo.
From my experience you also want to take into consideration the health of the plant as a healthy plant won’t be drawing from its leaves the same. Whereas you may want to leave some extra leaves on a plant that is slightly struggling and the leaves will get used from the plant throughout flower and will get pulled off/drop off the plant throughout flower any way.
And like you said, everyone has their own thoughts on defoliating and their just mine. 8-)

Thanks for the detailed response! Confirms what I have researched. I think I've identified the issue as a zinc deficiency(i use ro water). I've checked ph and ec from run off. 6.0 ph and 1.8 ec. 6.4 in resi though. I will set at 5.6 and see how it goes.

Yes, this is my first grow. Currently going through a divorce, so this keeps me busy and distracted. Also anything worth doing is worth doing properly, 4k outlay.

Timing is what I'm trying to dial in. Going to offset next lot by 4 weeks.

Thanks again!

Sorry to hear that Aussiebrat!
It’s a great hobby to get into and should help take your mind off things for sure.
Yes, ph may be a little too high imo. Worth dropping a little I think. Maybe let your ph drift a little so you absorb most minerals within the drift range you choose.
I thought I had a sulphur deficiency a while back, affecting only the tops/new growth. Looked like the start of light burn but I had my lights the same distance as all the others. Turned out the light was a bit close as I had replaced the bulb recently and was a lot brighter than the others. Not saying that’s your case, but I became certain it was sulphur deficient lol.
4K outlay isn’t too bad man. And I’m sure the way your going, it won’t take long to recoup that
As far as timing your defol, I personally don’t defol until I see little flowers everywhere. I try to leave the leaf mass on during most of the stretch to utilise as much photosynthesis as I can to get the plant as big as possible. Then I hit it fairly hard removing a lot of big fans and again (but not as aggressive roughly 3.5 weeks after flip. I’ve noticed if I do the second defol a bit late and go fairly hard, it stunts their bud development for a couple of days. This is around the time they start packing it on and I try to have any defoliating done and dusted by week 4 after flip as I feel this part of the plants life should be primarily focusing on bud development and not recovering. ;-)
Just hoping to give you some ideas, but the best way imo. Is to experiment and see what works best for you and your style of grow 8-)

Thanks man. I just replaced both ballasts and cooltubes. I will raise lights, path of least resistance and all that...

New ballast still leak RF pretty bad. Will build a farday cage for them .

I found gnats today in flower room. Wonder if they could be at fault? I read they can cause root rot. I can either flood with 10,000 ppm of co2 or grab a sulphur burner.
