Alright so i did some research on this and came up with a pretty crafty way which you can grow and consume peyote at no risk. United States federal law (and many state laws) protects the harvest, possession, consumption and cultivation of peyote as part of "bonafide religious ceremonies". American jurisdictions enacted these specific statutory exemptions in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Employment Division v. Smith, 494 U.S. 872 (1990), which held that laws prohibiting the use of peyote that do not specifically exempt religious use nevertheless do not violate the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. Peyote is listed by the United States DEA as a Schedule I controlled substance. Although many American jurisdictions specifically allow religious use of peyote, religious or therapeutic use not under the aegis of the Native American Church has often been targeted by local law enforcement agencies, and non-Natives attempting to establish spiritual centers based on the consumption of peyote as a sacrament or as medicine, such as the Peyote Foundation in Arizona, have been prosecuted. The Peyote Way Church of God in Arizona is a spiritual center that welcomes all races to Peyotism. The great thing about this loop hole is you can join the church online. I'm not a lawyer but if you're a member of this church then it would seem to be an excellent loop hole with little work. The link is below for the membership. The only draw back to this is that you do have to pay a $50 due. I dunno if that's worth it or not but to me it would be just for the peace of mind knowing I have complete immunity. Hope this helps. Here are some updated photos of my friends Peyote seedlings.
Here are some that were ungrafted and rooted. The smaller ones were never grafted, they are on their original roots still.
Here are a few pictures of some new grafts, he is using Pereskiopsis as a root stock.
All of these peyote's were germinated around March or April, so you can see the benefits of grafting. They grow big fast, The larger cacti were only grafted for 3 months.

Here is a picture of a freshly grafted large peyote, it should get to be the size of a base ball in about five to six months.

I'll take a picture with the digital camera later, these were taken with my friends cell phone.
The peyote scion was a bit sunburned, but that's fine. We should start seeing some new growth in around a week or two.

nah. grafting just forces faster growth. i read it can take 10-15 years even for peyote to fully mature. but you can cut that WAY down by grafting to any fast growing (preferably columnar?) cactus like san pedro or, better yet, trichocereus peruvianus which is 10x stronger than san pedro.

I don't know about any peruvianus to be 10X more potent than a pachanoi, but the Peruvian torch grows 3 times as fast. The alkaloid content varies so much that you need a clone from a good cultivar, they are worthless from seed. You could grow a seed that could grow worthy of becoming a mother. This will take a lot of patients, and plenty of time. You can also graft the seedlings to Pereskiopsis and get some nice fat seedlings for replanting.
The best peyote is grown from seed and never grafted. When you speed up the growth rate using Pereskiopsis it quits producing the Phenelethylamines, since Pereskiopsis does not produce them.
The idea is to graft them for a little while, maybe enough time to get 1 the size of your fist. Then, you degraft it and let it grow into a Peyote the size of a base ball. In that time the roots will reestablish themselves and produce a very nice amount of alkaloids back into the degrafted scion.
3 grafted peyote is more than enough for any man without a tolerance, equal to 1 grown from seed, that is the size of a baseball. It all really depends on how long the Peyote has been on it's own roots.
I'll be posting ipctures of my buddys grafts tonight, you guys can check out the growth after only a few weeks on these new grafts.

Here's some splitting that occurred due to the rapid growth of the scion.
Here is an identification photo of a Lophophora williamsii/Peyote, minus the flower. Notice how the roots grow more like a carrot instead of like most cacti.
Here is the cactus above grafted to the Pereskiopsis root stock in the first photo.

very nice 
grow your pere stocks about six inches longer, leaving all leaves for even greater results. swim has some that are aloms 3'' in diameter now.... one has 9 offsets, which will be grafted soon. swim also just grafted 8 pups to pere, all took with no strings involved (proving it can be done 
)

My buddy uses super glue if the Peyote scion is too big to be suported naturally, he just puts a dab or 2 around the sides(never on the cut area).kindprincess

My buddy waters pretty much the same way you mentioned when grafting.that's right. i find it best to water well 24 hours before grafting, then no water for 7-10 days. i keep grafts in a clone dome for that time, and they are generally nice and tight by the time i take them out.

He also reuses plastic butter knifes for the frame of his humidity dome and he uses 1 gallon ziplock bags for the dome itself. I'll take a picture of the graft inside the dome for an example, probably wont be untill tomorrow though, it's getting a little late down here.

awesome little plants i have a small button which was grown from seed it is about the size of the top of your thumb,i have always wanted to try it but i think i will be past it before it gets big enough,should i graft this i have a few other cactis i could use but am unsure wheather i should or just be patient
