Using Varenicline (CHANTIX) To Quit Smoking: Do Not Use Until 2014 [hide all summaries]
(September 2007)
Varenicline was approved by the FDA in May 2006 for use as an aid in smoking cessation treatment. It belongs to a new family of drugs, not containing nicotine, but thought to work by stimulating nicotine receptors in the brain, just as nicotine does. As seen so many times, recently, the evaluation of the safety of a drug is often inadequate when it is approved and varencicline is no exception. In pre-approval studies, the most common side effect appeared to be nausea – uncomfortable, not life-threatening, but occurring in more than one-third of patients using the drug and often causing patients to discontinue the drug. Because of inadequate information about its safety, we recommend not using it until 2014, by which time much more will be known.

Alternatives to Chantix (Varenicline) Dangerous Smoking Cessation Drug Side Effects of Antidepressants, Antipsychotics, Psychostimulants, Hypnotics and More
............
The pill was linked to more than 3,000 reports of serious side effects per a Bloomberg report.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported in February that at least 39 people committed suicide while on Chantix.........................

You can't really say that you've officially quit until you go at least 3 days .. If you can make it through 3 days without one cigarette, then you're good... Well supposedly.. this is what my doctor told me. I can't believe you even took medication in the first place for something like quitting smoking. Every one knows the most effective method is quitting cold turkey without any help from other stuff. Actually, statistics tell us that more people are successful quitting that way.

But yeah .. This is not even near surprising to me. You hear about things like this all the time.

Fck pharmaceuticals for mental ailments... It's all rubbish.

The only method is will power.

I love how I don't practice what I preach. lol ... But really ... I don't even wanna quit bad enough to go through with it. As bad as it sounds, I actually enjoy smoking....

I went a full day without a cigarette once.. and it's not THAT bad.

I'm off the cigs now a total of 17 years. There was a two year period when I went back. Anyhow, you have to find your trigger. What makes you want to have that cig? Then it's a matter of avoiding it. Mine was coffee. If I even thought about it I would reach for a cig, no shit. So I quit the coffee first and then cold turkeyed the cigs. Worked for me. And if your toking, it shouldn't be all that bad. No meds.

thats what I was thinking, in fact last night I was wondering how I could stop smoking, or at least cut down, and I found myself saying well I need to smoke after smoking a blunt... and before, and after waking up, and after meals, and after almost anything, and whilst typing on RIU, than I said :(

I quit smoking about 6 months ago. I have had a couple of cigs since then but I have not bought a pack and don't get cravings. It is weird though every once and a while when I get a little stressed or something I crave a cig. That is after 6mo! Cigs are fucked up man I can't believe how addictive they are!

It will be two years cigarette free for me on January 1st. I just quit cold turkey. No pills, no patch, no crutch of any kind. Sometimes I still find myself wanting one, but it's been so long since I've smoked that I can't even imagine doing it now. Besides, if I ever get really bad cravings, all I have to do is go somewhere where there are people smoking. Once I get a whiff of that awful, disgusting smell of cigarette smoke, I no longer want one. It really does smell putrid people, even if you can't smell it.

:peace:

Yeah, I'm pretty much over cigs yet every once in blue moon, I for whatever reason crave one. Addicting? You bet, worse than anything except alcohol I think.

the pills block the receptors that the nicotine attaches to. for all said purposes i quit once i started taking the pills. the tobacco has no effect on my body. other than side effects i would imagine. as far as cravings, i have NONE. i keep thinking i should be smoking but i have no desire to. no tension or deep inner urges. just habitual urges now. :)
