Well FDD, good luck!! Take it from a guy that has quit many times. Here's a quick run down of my experiences.. 1972, watching the Vikings lose to Dallas... quit for two weeks and thought if I rolled my own it would be okay...not!!!
1975.. finally cold turkey and was good for 6 years. Divorce and right back to it...
1981... new wife and quit together for about 6 years
1987... new girl, started smoking again as she smoked (ugh!)
1994... Deep vein thrombosis in right leg... quit (on and off) for 6 years, used Nicarette gum and nose spray. Rocky time with another dvt and finally quit for good in 2000 using gum and wellbutrin.
BUT... I was addicted to the gum but finally quit the gum in 2002.
I'm good now but it was a battle. The main thing is you can't cheat once or you're done. Good luck!!! Oh yeah, pot helped me a lot too as it was "something" to smoke.

you just brightened my day. hella funny story. :bigjoint:bongsmilie
Totally true too! (My praying for the bike from God story was not true) If you end up using that gum down the road don't chew it like it is gum, take a couple of chews and park it....that stuff can really make you sick.

Oh yeah, I used the 4 mg and would bite the thing in half and just suck on it until I got the hiccups then as Sunny said Park It! Just put in between the cheek and gum. Then chew a little at a time.

I really liked the pharmaceutical nicotine better as you can chew on an airplane; chew anytime without the hassle and without tarring your lungs up, need to save room for the "good" tar.

Congrats ... I'm assuming you've been smoking for a long time....It's admirable that you haven't given in yet.

Maybe I will try this Chantix... does insurance cover the cost of the meds?
My wife's insurance paid for hers. And i called my insurance company and they said it would cover it as well. So Hopefully yours does too if you are going to try it. it is pretty expensive my neighbor has to pay for hers ( no insurance )

GrowTech

stays relevant.
Chantix also causes aneurysms... just so you know. My lady deals with a lot of aneurysm calls from chantix in the health insurance company she works for.

Good for you fdd. I hope you stay strong

I bet your kid is glad you're quitting. My youngest brother hates that his dad smokes, and I know he'd love it if his dad even tried to quit

Shit on toast.I never trust new drugs by big pharma any more.My old man quit cold turkey.I'm very proud of him.Obviously, not everyone can do it.Good luck.
sumnafabitch. i started taking it 12 days ago. i quit smoking yesterday and am doing great until i turn on the news last night and see it is the second most dangerous drug out there.:neutral::twisted:

chantix says the benefits outweigh the risks so if i live thru it i will be a better person. :eyesmoke::lol:

Using Varenicline (CHANTIX) To Quit Smoking: Do Not Use Until 2014 [hide all summaries]
(September 2007)
Varenicline was approved by the FDA in May 2006 for use as an aid in smoking cessation treatment. It belongs to a new family of drugs, not containing nicotine, but thought to work by stimulating nicotine receptors in the brain, just as nicotine does. As seen so many times, recently, the evaluation of the safety of a drug is often inadequate when it is approved and varencicline is no exception. In pre-approval studies, the most common side effect appeared to be nausea – uncomfortable, not life-threatening, but occurring in more than one-third of patients using the drug and often causing patients to discontinue the drug. Because of inadequate information about its safety, we recommend not using it until 2014, by which time much more will be known.

Alternatives to Chantix (Varenicline) Dangerous Smoking Cessation Drug Side Effects of Antidepressants, Antipsychotics, Psychostimulants, Hypnotics and More
............
The pill was linked to more than 3,000 reports of serious side effects per a Bloomberg report.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported in February that at least 39 people committed suicide while on Chantix.........................
