UV -C for scent control?

Saw this at Lowes today.

Tabletop Air Cleansing System

Anyone tried UV C? I don't understand if it is the UV light that gets rid of the smell or the carbon filter (already use one). Pretty reasonable if it works and they have a couple different sizes.

Thoughts?

I didn't see U/V C anywhere in the ad. I seriously doubt UV has any effect on odor. Now the "ionizer" might give you some odor relief.

All this hype about odor can have a newbie (like me) running crazy and paranoid. I was really freaking as my plants got bigger. I was convinced that in a week or so, they'd be smelling my grow in Tennessee. The odor NEVER became an issue during the grow. Every now and again we'd catch a whiff in the living room, but that's it.
Now when I harvested and hung it to dry, THAT'S another story altogether. Don't plan on having any company over for a few days when you harvest.

Looks to me like the UV is for killing bacteria. That wouldn't affect the smell much if at all, I think. You should look into ozone generators if you're tweaking about smell. I think you can get a decent for $100-200.

I know exactly what you mean, when i first started i was freaking out when my plants started to flower, there was a smell but if anyone got it i doubt they'd link it with smoke, i went all out on a carbon scrubber and to be honest dont really need it. i was growing white widow that time, now this grow is afghani#1 and even in veg we could smell it, but well see if ill be taking out the scrubber. just keep a couple of scented candles about.

Same brand, next step up, no carbon filter. Essentially an ozone generator? Carbon filters and cheap air freshners have worked so far, just trying to think ahead for those stinky varieties. Not big on the idea of ozone generator.

The pizza guy said "hey it smells really nice in there", my friend thinks its time he does something about the smell, I tend to agree. Yes the first one I posted uses UV C read it a little closer, I saw them at Lowes yesterday, they make a bathroom size one for $30 but it only does 540 cubic ft an hr.

So to update the thread UV-C creates ozone, so essentially these are reasonably priced ozone generators.

as long as it creates ozone you should be ok... keep in mind that if its metal longated blade system you will have to clean that bitch often as my uncle found in his op...

UV is how Ozone "works" in some applications, the other is corona discharge. UV ozone however does less damage to plant tissues and also creates CO2 and O from the explosion of organisms in the air. It's the only cheap method of odor control that is effectively being banned in the US. The wavelength of light is 'dangerous' because it's so effective, how can an industry that sells air cleaning machines that use filters, light and other consumables ever catch up with free generation from electricity? THEY CAN'T! That's why it's dangerous, and that's why any of us can't have it. The govt protecting us from ourselves again. Odor control is VITAL! Even for medical card holders, because you DO NOT want ANYONE knowing. That ups the ante and gives you unwanted attention from the neighbors...or the pizza delivery guy.
