Meanwell 600w driver hookup help.

I have a Meanwell HLG-600H-48A driver I'm trying to hook up to.4 QB288 boards. They have an extra lead I have no idea what to do with and can't get it working. Please help. I will post pics. The drivers I've used before only have one positive and negative lead but this driver has two.

It's so you can split the current off on to 2 leads rather than pulling all 600w through one. Gets hot that way.
Just hook up 2 in parallel on one lead and the other 2 in parallel on the second lead, just the same. That way you're splitting the power and being safer.

Sucks to get that far and get confused on something so simple. Do as @Airwalker16 and your in business. Watching Growmau5 on youtube did wonders for me and my slow stoned brain. Diy is simple when its explained correctly.

Thanks a lot you two, So simple! You're right lol something as simple as series vs parallel held me back but thanks to you all I figured it out. Four boards split into Two boards running at parallel at a time. Thanks! Funny part is I didn't have enough wire left to wire up in parallel. And I ordered wire but they sent me stranded instead of solid wire so off to the hardware store tomorrow I go. I know it's rough with the wego connectors but I was just testing to make sure the circuit worked. Now I have to redo the wiring so it doesn't look ugly.

I was gonna go with the HLG 600w diy kit but I decided to just order the parts on my own since it's cheaper and this driver has a built In dimmer instead of having to add one

Also HLG lists that we are supposed to have a 50-54v driver but I have the 48v one. Will that be a big issue?

You probably won't get anywhere near 600W by undervolting the boards by that much

Actually, it depends if those are QB288 V1 or V2 boards. V2 you're OK, V1 will be undervolted.

Type A drivers can increase their voltage a bit by using the oonboard voltage control, screwdriver in the little Vo adjustment hole. Depending on the performance of boards and driver you may get it up to about 50 V and change which would drive your boards close to max. But the driver will prob run hot, get a fan on it.

Oh ya, good point. The -48 has been reported to hit 52V, but instead of 11.2A you're dealing with 12.5A. Tread carefully?

Actually, it depends if those are QB288 V1 or V2 boards. V2 you're OK, V1 will be undervolted.

They are v2 Rspec boards. Urgh maybe I should just go get the correct driver. I hate dealing with online returns. If the 12.5 A won't be a huge fire risk I'll keep it. Or I might just under power it for awhile until I replace it. How much wattage will I actually lose tho using the 48v at default settings? Sorry I'm no electrician so I have no real idea of how the volts and amperage works. I'm just trying to diy light build lol

R-spec have max 3000mA at 54V. You wont get full ppower out of those with that driver.

How much power will I lose? Will it be a ton like losing 100W full draw or will it be something like 50W?

There isnt any full info on the r-spec voltage curve, only 54V for max 3000mA so its very hard to say. Guestimating your boards would run around 60-80w each based on V2 data + 2 V. Ask in the qb thread you might have better luck.

Thanks for the help you all. I would've never figured this stuff out myself. Time to do some YouTube educational videos on voltage and currents. Would running at 12.5a be that much a risk?

Sorry I didn't see your boards and driver weren't correct for each other. Was just adressing your question. But with the stranded wire situation....Just twist the end of the stranded, throw a little solder on it to suck up and you're ready to stick it in. It's called "Tinning the wires".

Yeah I just have no solder or soldering iron either right now lol . I did pick up some copper thermostat 18awg wire which I think should work just as well

I have another 4 boards as well and ordered a inventronics EUD-600S280DT. Will that do the job for 4 Rspec boards? I ordered it on accident and don't wanna send it back.

That stuff from Home Depot isn’t rated for very high voltage so good thing you’re in parallel.
