My first harvest

Hey my first crop is finally ready to be harvested. The flush is almost complete. I have a box I made to hang them is. I don’t have any fancy equipment to control humidity. If any of you have tips I would be very appreciative. I have done reading and you tube video research but looking for person to person feed back. My one buddy who knows the drill is trying to shake me down for a zip for his knowledge so I’m going in blind.

It really doesn’t need to be complicated. I remove the big fan leaves and hang the whole plant or the branches if space is tight. You want to dry it slowly, 7-14 days depending on your temps and air flow. 7 will work 14 would be better. When it gets to a point that the out side is slightly crisp and it the stems crack when bent I remove the buds from the stems and put them in a big paper bag. Leave them in there until they are perfect to smoke usually another 4-7 days, this evens out the moisture from the center of the buds to the outside. Make sure to stir it at least once a day, to move the buds around for the best effect. When it smokes a nice joint it should be dried to the point you can jar it for storage. It’s always best practice to double check the jars after a day or two to make sure they aren’t to wet but if you did the dry correctly they should be perfect already.

Yeah, screw that guy. who knows if he even knows what he's talking about. It's not rocket science. I wet trim mine, hang them in a closet with a fan not pointed right at them, just to circulate air, wait until they feel dry, cut into nugs, put in paper bag for a couple 2 or 3 days until they feel pretty dry, jar them up with a hygrometer, and keep an eye on humidity. Pretty simple. I made a home made lid hygrometer.

Hey my buds have been hanging for like 4 days, the outsides are super crunchy, and seem dry. The humidity is about 34% in the closet I’m using, and the temp is around 70. I’m about ready to stick them in the bags. The only thing is my buds seem to have lost their scent. They smelt a lot better on the plant.

You might have less smell at this point for a few reasons.


1- the drying process isn't done, and as they actually finish the process the smell will fill out better.

2-you dried them to fast, 4 days is pretty quick. The paper bag might allow them to balance out the moisture and finish properly. Using a smaller space to dry next time will contain more humidity and slow the process might help.

3-you might have simply chopped too early. I've done it myself and seen it time and time again with growers on here. Many times plants chopped early will dry real fast and won't retain the terpenes they had when growing.

Shit ok cool thanks so much! I had a lot of amber on the tricombs, and they were going for about 95 days. These are the little buds that were drying on a tray. Thanks soo much

30% RH is kinda low. The range you want to shoot for is around 50% but can be hard to manage I know. I bought some 5 dollar pet store hygrometers to go in the jar with them. Better to jar them a bit too early and burp once over 62% then too late and risk not being able to cure with no moisture left in them.

So to sum up my 10 page tutorial on drying and curing.
Cut the plant. Hang upside down. If youre environment is dry then cut some of the fan leaves and leave in a bag under the bud it will create moisture. If your environment is humid then you want to wet trim as much as possible and leave a gentle fan (not blowing on the plant) just to circulate the air only. Let her dry for that way keeping a close eye on her. After 3 days start gauging if you need more air to circulate or to just leave it hanging.
If after 3 days its still feels wet then wrap paper bags around her or you can buy a net it will dry faster both ways.
Around the 5th day mark look and see if the stem snaps or bends. If it snaps then you forsure must jar. If it doesn't then its it's up to you whether to jar or leave it hanging for one more day.
Burp jars once a day. After 3-4 weeks you have some primo bud.

Thanks, I wish I had a better idea what I was doing. If I started my plants at the same time I probably could have just hung them in the tent. Would have made it easier to control humility. I appreciate all advice
